I'm scheduled for May 12th. Normally within an hour or so of launch I head out on my 120mi run to my marina, sometimes the run is nice, sometimes not. I switched marinas last summer, won't have to do that anymore.
Last week april. Paint done. One battery junk, will replace Sunday. Zodiac may launch next weekend. All tiki bars open, getting anxious.
I was in the front of the building by the Tropics. They actually called me and wanted me to launch early this week because it was "in the way"... LOL
Boat washed, decluttered, heaters removed, fridges turned on, polished the stern locker area, drank some beers, listened to the radio, started mains and genny; a good day.
Started mains, moved to slip, tied up, shut off mains, connected to shore power, went to work, beers to be named later today...
I went in earlier this week and have been going out each evening since but snuck out early today to go for a ride. Weather’s was great this week and just a few boats out.
I was 19yrs over on the Keweenaw at the county marina by the bridge. Mid last summer I went to Pikes Bay for the remainder of the season, then I just decided to stay there. My winter boat storage is on that side of the lake anyway. Our boating gang/friends had fallen apart mostly due to age/health/sold their boats. We didn't leave much when we left. Another thing was my first and last trip of the season was across the lake, you don't know what you're going to get sometimes. The spring trip was usually better odds for weather but the fall a couple times was something else. About 3yrs ago I was heading across to storage. The forecast was for a nice sunny cruise, well let me tell ya'. What a ride
Any previous pics with lots of masts were as transients....but now I've moved right in among them, we'll see how they handle the MAGA hat, flashing stripper lights, and beer bottles floating around in the marina.
Pikes bay seemed like a nice place. We stayed at Apostle Island Marina while visiting the Apostles and it’s right in town but we moved to Pikes Bay for a couple of days just before leaving for Isle Royale so we could do laundry. Bayfield didn’t have laundry. Not having a car, staying right in Bayfield worked good. Yeah, our friends are getting out, not sure how much longer for us.
My plans when I got the 420DA were this...when I wanted to hang up boating I'd run it south, I'd boat FL and Bahamas until I had my fill, then leave the boat for sale in Miami and fly home. It was a doable plan then, but in the last 3yrs I'm falling to pieces, there's no way I can handle it, if I tried it there definitely wouldn't be any enjoyment in it.
