2020 Lake Michigan Rendezvous

I did call McKinnly and they will have the fuel dock open this coming weekend. I always head there first and fill up with fuel and fill water tanks.
Yobub, sorry you can’t make it !!

Sounds good. I should be there by 8:00 pm.

There will be some pics when I get back home. Maybe you should of come too and posted some pics.
I wish I could have....bit of a trip though..... we suck on this side of Michigan for rendezvous....at least you guys had one... :)

Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. We left Saturday afternoon back to Sturgeon Bay to avoid possible storms heading into Sunday. I didn't take many pictures, but did manage this one.

From left to right: JWilt, Stee6043, me, Eagleone. Steve S hadn't made it yet (or maybe he was being detained by the Aquapolice, but that's his story to tell). We learned a few things: His grandson is almost like Superman: Able to leap thru screen doors in a single bound! And, his dog doesn't know how to fly.

Yep... I'm a lawbreaker... I had been inside the breakwater when I visited Escapade when I was first thinking about a big Searay and I knew it wasn't a "No Wake" zone inside there but I had never boated there myself. So I cruised right up and through the breakwater while on plane just like I do down in Chicago by Navy Pier. The problem was I didn't see the little sign that said "5 mph - No wake zone" on the breakwater. One must come off plane, go no wake through the breakwater and then you can restore your power. The Milwaukee Police came charging directly at me head on so I knew they wanted me to stop... However they were very nice and polite and explained the rule to me. I indicated that it was my first time there and I was simply trying to get to the marina before dark (It was right at sunset). After explaining the rule and I apologized, they told me to have a nice evening... and I idled in to the marina...

"It's a bird", "No, It's a plane"... "No, It's Super Devlin".... Excited kid promised ice cream, goes on a boat tour of a 500DB at dusk... the black screen door gets closed to keep the owners cat inside... and excited kid goes charging outside to see if any of the other kids want to go get some ice cream but forgets and doesn't see the closed screen door... and becomes "Super Devlin" as his feet hit the door frame as he does his best "Kool Aid" pitcher "Ohh Yeah" through the screen...

Sorry that happened Mike!

And finally the dog story...

Back at Winthrop Harbor, I have a portside dock at my slip and the dog is used to jumping up the stairs on over the side to the dock.

In Milwaukee, I had a starboard side slip. And the dog had no issues originally getting off the boat. However, my daughter had left the dog in the cabin while she was up at the helm and we were chatting about some things. My grandson, "Super Devlin" decided to let the dog out of the cabin and wanted him to go up to the helm with us... unfortunately he used the same command words that have been used when getting the dog off the boat... so instead of heading up all the stairs to the helm, the dog thought he was going for a walk and leaped over the port side... and realized in mid leap that there was no dock... splash! Now we have a swimming dog who has never been in the water before. My daughter is charging down the stairs, yelling at Devlin, Devlin in frozen and terrified because he doesn't know what to do (He is 10). Shannon is struggling to open the transom door lock, I am coming down the stairs... the dog is swimming to the swim platform and trying to figure out how to get up... Shannon finally grabs the dog's collar and hauls him up on the swim platform and the dog moves the cockpit and proceeds to shake off getting all of us wet now....

A friend of mine has a regal sedan bridge. His screen door is curved to match the glass door. He took the door into the local hardware store to have the screen replaced. For some reason they took it upon themselves to flattened it, put new screen in and thought they did a great job. :)

Regal said they would have to custom make a new one for $3,500

Just a heads up

It was great meeting you guys this weekend. Sorry we didn't get to attend the group dinner. I would have liked to hang out more. 3 kids and this new puppy made our boat trip a little more complicated than we'd typically expect.

@J.Wilt thank you for the boat tour! I hope you'll shoot me a message if you start thinking about selling that 420 :)

We are about to push off to Sheboygan for a couple more nights before returning to the other side of the lake. It's been really strange being the only boat in this marina for 24 hours. Time to move on!

Dinghy tour Saturday morning:

Jeff Steendam, you have a beautiful family. Enjoy them while they are young! Michael is my baby at 14 so we understand completely. Next time, we will hope to have a bigger window and spend some time on the docks together. Lakeshore wasn't much of a "hang out" location.

Look up Blue Harbor resort for the kids. It's a water park (but may be mostly indoors). I don't know their COVID rules, but may be worth a shot. Dinghy over to it. M
