2016-17 Football thread - any team banter welcome.

A question to ponder!
What do you think would happen if the NFL put a salary cap on the player or position.
I realize this will probably never happen but, let's say a QB had a max salary of $500,000. per season and another position had let's say a S350,000.
Every team had a minimum salary of let's say $300,000.
Do you feel that the game would decline or remain the same. I believe the highest paid player's of today would leave but, I also think after a couple of years the same rookie who would sign for the big money today would also sign for the above numbers.
After a few years we as spectators would never know the difference on the on field play of then compared to today.
I also believe this would be true of any professional sport.
We run major league sports like the government runs the US. Spend more than you can afford and then pass the balance on to the supporters until you have finally bite the hand who feeds you.
This is only a question to peak your thoughts as I know with the unions and past history it could never happen. I also know that with the completely out of hand salaries that every team is likely at the breaking point of keeping their fans in the stands. I know that I am sick of paying hard earned money to see a guy making millions and acting like a A-hole most Sunday afternoon's.
Your thoughts?

Wasn't it in 2011 the players took a strike threat to almost the opening weekend to so they could get a bigger slice of the pie?

I can't see any way your scenario would ever happen. The players see the ever increasing revenue stream and they will want an ever increasing slice of the pie. They will strike and force the owners to pay them before they settle on position caps.

Trust me those billionaire owners will not pay a dime more than they believe a player is worth, like anyone in their organization. Bear in mind how you value a player may be different than a team owner.

I read an article about how the Browns profited from Manzel even though he was a bust by football standards.

Well the salary cap is a percentage of League revenue, somethiinng aroung 48%. The majority of that comes from national television revenues. When the Rams had multiple losing seasons, and ownership did nothing but routinely spend below the cap, I voted with my $ and didn't renew my season tickets.

I saw a news article about the players who have jumped ship for a different team. There were quite a few Broncos on the list. Is there going to be a mass exodus to avoid being associated with a team that's "rebuilding"?

More about owners not spending more than they have too. The Patriots have released many great players because they did not want to spend the money and thought they could get "as good" for less. They have done this the whole Bellichik era and have done well.

I'm trying to figure out if the Seabirds have gotten better or worse?

Why is Lynch on the roster if he retired?

MM

Lynch still is on there till he or the team terminates his contract someone stated there is some bonus money if he's on the roster after free agency starts & he might negotiate a reduced salary to mentor Rawls as the starting back.

First day of free agency took a toll on the Hawks defense.

I had read he would owe back some signing money if he retires.

That could be the sticking point.

The odds will not change much until the money flow changes. The Broncos changes were so big the odds had to change to get any action on it.

Wow! What a fall from grace for the 49ers! I really hope Kaeperdumb goes to the Broncos or somewhere. It's going to take time (and maybe a new owner) to get them back on track. That sucks, but we do have Trump taking over the Republican Party so you never know?

What did you think of your teams first round draft pick? (Except New England LOL)

Colts did what they should, not sexy but solid.
