So I am thinking of one of these trucks. Am really interested in hearing what others think if you own one of these models. I don't have any real needs to haul anything. It will mostly be myself or wife and I in it. My commute to work is 120 miles round trip which I may do 2-3 times/week. Annually travel estimate is about 25K miles. I was originally interested in the Ram diesel for the better mileage but am having second thoughts whether it is worth the extra expense. I'm not sure it is..... I do want leather and blue tooth and navigation so not looking for the cheapest model either.. Interested to hear your thoughts/comments.

I just traded my 2007 F150 in on a 2015 Ram 1500 crew cab 4x4 short bed last month. Mine's a Sport with every option but sunroof. The Hemi with the 8-speed trans is sweet! It just turned 1,000 miles and I'm getting 17 MPG on back country roads, I haven't done any highway driving yet.

I didn't care for the looks of the new F150 and am really happy with the Ram. I've had both Fords and Dodges over the years and quite frankly wasn't impressed with the quality of my last F150.

I have a 2011 Ford F150 FX4 Crewcab and it's fantastic. Its the ecoboost (v6 twin turbo), I average 15.5mpg. It rides great and looks like a nice SUV inside. I don't know too much about the Rams but if I had to do it again I would buy another F150.

I have a 14 Ram 1500 Hemi crew cab. The Crew cab is about two times bigger inside then the quad cab. The best mpg I got was 19.2 mpg on the Hwy. There are 9 different models and 40 different trims.

The truck rides like a coach bus, very comfortable.

Good Luck

I have a 2015 Ram Laramie limited crew cab, all options. Incredible truck. Good looks, good performance, great tow capacity, good mileage relatively speaking, comfortable. 8 speed and air suspension are a must.

i had the exact same truck new in 2013 and liked it so much I ordered the 2015 identical to it, color and all.

I recently rented a 2015 f-150 4x4 crew cab short bed eco boost. I really like the truck. The eco boost power was great, and gave 23 mpg highway, and 19 around town. The only complaint is the seats. Ford seats are always to hard, and to narrow. You probably wouldn't notice on short trips, but if you take a 1500 mile long trip, you will.

All this from a GMC guy.

On the Dodge, I bought a new Dodge once, never again. That's all I have to say about that.....

I tend to own things (vehicles/boats/etc.) a long time so reliability is top notch for me. I have a '98 Exploder that I bought new and the only real repair expense I've had in 115,000 miles is a recharge on the A/C unit a year ago.

I've rented lots of vehicles over the past 5-7 years as I've traveled and I've learned to refuse Chrysler products. Maybe it's just my bad luck with them but it seems that when they get to around 15,000-18,000 miles they start to rattle and squeak and ride hard. I've had good luck with Ford products but still prefer the Nissans and some other foreign brands.

Just bought a new 2015 GMC Sierra - 22 mpg hwy and rides like a caddy on a rails.

For more serious work - 3500 Silverado Dually - diesel - 14 mpg towing 12,500 lbs over the rockies - love that Allison!

Rides --- well -- like a truck!

This is great feedback and I'm getting some good info from it. Thanks - Please keep them coming. The 2015 Ram and Ford both got some great reviews as well as the 16's. Traditionally I am a Ford guy with owning both the Excursion and Explorer. I think I have owned about 35-40 vehicles in my life. The Excursion was my baby. Loved it. But the Ram keeps my attention also. The Ram does have a lot of models that scale the price charts. My nephew just purchased the Ram and my buddy just purchased the Ford. They both love them. Which is a good thing. This may be getting down to just a preference. The Ram was always the leader because I thought I needed that diesel. And GFC, yes I tend to keep vehicles awhile too. And I'm not opposed to foreign cars. I also like the Infiniti Q50S and Lexus GS350's. And for these reasons are why I still drive my current vehicle. :)

I have a 2012 F150 XLT. I'm sitting here looking at it with 85,000 miles on it it's got some very minor little rattles in one of the doors, but that's it. I'm about to put on its 3rd set of tires Saturday. I'm also going to put on brakes and shocks too. Of course the front shocks are struts now. I used this truck as a service vehicle in my pool business when I operated it. It was driven in a LOT of stop and go and made a lot of stops in a day. Mileage in city, under those conditions was 14.5 mpg, highway I get 18.5. No leaks, no burning oil, just a pleasure to drive. I've since sold the business and now it is my personal vehicle. Still love it.

I have owned 7 Ford/Lincolns and love them. At the time when I bought my first, an Explorer, I felt as though I was betraying my GM heritage! No longer do I feel that way. Great truck.

The Dodge you are looking at is what a friend of mine on the dock has. It's a great truck. He loves it, but he is also a Dodge/Chrysler man, racing them as a young man. I like riding in it, but have never driven it. It's a fine looking truck.

My thought is, drive both of them and "feel" which one you like and buy it. You won't regret that! Good luck, and enjoy whatever you buy.

i have a 2013 Ram `500 QC 4x4 hemi w/3.55s. my commute sounds very similar. 100 miles round trip 2 days a week, about 75% highway. in the summer cruise set at 69mph i average about 18mpg. i filled up yesterday and was at about 16.5 but it may be the winter blend fuel kicking in? i also pull my 1986 sundancer 250 with a tri-axle trailer no problems. i have the 6 speed trans. the 8 speed is tons better.

my step-father has a 2014 with the 8 spd and 3.92s and pulls a 9000lb 5th wheel

my step-son just got a 2015 with 3.92s and 8 speed and loves it

all that said, about a year ago i had rented a 2014 with 3.92s and 8 speed and got about 2 mpg better than i did in my truck with the same commute. if i did it again i would definitely get the 3.92s and 8 speed

Food for thought. The 1500 diesel is using Mercedes transmission which is bomb proof. I say this as I owed a 2500 with Cummings and the Mercedes tranny. I owed 15k all the time. I also got 12-15mph while towing. If you are going to keep vehicle I would spend the money and get the diesel. Another note...the dealer sold ford,GM, and Dogde so the sales guy really did not care which one I bought, just that I bought. We really discussed what I was doing with the truck and matched what I needed the truck to do versus what a persons brand loyalty preference. MTC

Well after much patience and looking at both I just got a 2016 F150 Platinum week ago. I loved the deal, she rides beautifully, and I love it. Supercrew, FX4, 3.5L Ecoboost, short bed, tailgate step, lots of electronics - very nice vehicle.. Thanks for all input..

Ahh. The F150. Windshield and rear door glass made here in Nashville by the company I work for.

Funny, I'm looking at both trucks right now, I'm a hardened FORD GUY, BUT my old partner bought a Ram 1500 RAM thats a beast. He put 5" exhaust, blacked everything out on his Laramie edition,,, HID lights the thing is sick'' FOX suspension etc... Love the truck.. As a boater we all need "bed space" s it's a no brainier right now. Ps,, my NYPD F 35O super duty power stroke did us well ( loved that truck also)

Wow, I bought a new 14 XLT and love it. The HID headlIghts cannot be beat and 17.1mpg over 26,000 miles.

Realistically with any of the big 3, you can't go wrong with a full size truck. My last was an 06 Ram 2500. It's amazing how far they've come!

Hmmmm......I'm reading this with great interest. My lease is up in a couple weeks on a 2014 Ram 1500 crew cab express. It served me well with no real problems. It has the 5.7 Hemi with a 6 speed tranny. I only get 11-12 mpg but do mostly local roads with a heavy pedal.
I started looking at new trucks about 6 weeks ago.
I was also looking primarily at Fords & Rams. I had a deposit on a used 2014 F150- FX4 loaded which I had fallen in love in as a new truck. The problem was that this one had an Eco-boost 6 cylinder that sputtered at every acceleration from a dead stop. After doing a google search I found some interesting data on the inter-coolers & condensation that turned me off so I moved on.
I ended up settling on a 2016 Ram 2500 Laramie Mega cab. I ordered it with the upgraded 6.4 liter Hemi as opposed to the 6.7 Cummins due to the limited driving I do (about 8k a year), no real towing to speak of (although it's rated over 13k lbs) and the cost difference (about $9k more for diesel). The cabin is huge (8" bigger in the back than the crew cab) & the truck is fully loaded with every option (other than air bag self leveling chassis) including the Rambox cargo management system. My only concern is after I custom ordered this truck, I was informed that I will need commercial plates due to the weight (approx 8100 lbs). This is a concern as it prevents me from driving on parkways. I actually was second guessing my purchase. I chose this particular model for several reasons but primarily that I may want to add a plow to do my driveway which you can't do on the 1500 crew cab without voiding the warranty and the Mega cab is only available on the super duty frame. Decisions decisions........

Todd that problem can be fixed with a 1/16" drill bit and a hole in the bottom of the CAC (intercooler). I haven't had that problem on mine and with the extended warranty to 125k miles I have no plans on doing it. It's pretty much fixed in the '15's on up.
