Seems like we will need this thread as the lakes are already colder than a year ago.

Lakes Superior and Lake Michigan are currently six degrees colder than last year. If the water continues to remain colder than normal, it could have an impact on Michigan's winter in several ways.

Currently Lake Superior has an average surface water temperature of 47.6 degrees. Last year on this date Lake Superior was at 53.7 degrees. The long-term average water temperature on Lake Superior for October 11 is 51.1 degrees.

Lake Michigan has an average surface water temperature of 56.0 degrees, while last year at this time it was 62.1 degrees. The long-term average water temperature on Lake Michigan for October 11 is 58.4 degrees.

Yet more statistical proof that global warming is alive and well.....

Last year at this time, the only ice we were talking about was cocktail ice. Now, mid October with the season not even over yet, we are already talking about lake ice - it's going to be a long winter!!

Lake Lanier, Ga, the 2nd largest land locked lake east of the Mississippi, was a balmy 75.6 degrees this past weekend...

Hope it will bring the lakes up another foot by next summer.

Honestly, I don't mind the lake levels a little low. Less competition for slips in popular harbors - the sailboats can't get in :)

I think Lake Michigan water levels are at the just right stage. Right at the historic monthly mean.

That's a lot of BTUs to be taken out of the system. The lake are huge heat sinks that deliver a lag effect on the weather.

South end of Georgian Bay was 52 on Sat when I pulled the boat out.

Woody,

We have cabin in Cornucopia. The pic below is in Siskiwit Bay. Do you know how it is ice fishing on Superior (Bayfield area - assuming you're out of that area as well)?

sorry to get off topic.....

Saturday looks like a good day. Sunny. Did you put the Whaler away yet?

Home base for me is Houghton, MI on the Keweenaw waterway. I get over to Bayfield/Apostle Island area once in a while but can't help you with the fishing other than to say that I always hear how good it is including ice fishing.

Its frickin snowin !!

I saw those, have you started the thrower yet?

Sorry I'm late getting to this thread. We just left the pool. It's 5:45 p.m. and it's still 89*. Sorry guys, if Humph wasn't going to say it I didn't want you to be feeling lonely.
