In the "2013 Chesapeake Gathering" thread, several of us indicated an interest in a raft-up. So let's do it. I'll update this original post as we go with additional information but want to get it out there to start the discussion.

So far we know:

Place: Conquest Beach
Date: _________________?

Marina nearby: Lankford Bay (fuel, free pump out, nice folks, shuttle to Rock Hall))

For those not familiar, Conquest Beach is a geat place to anchor. Lot's of room and a great beach (of course). Holds well. Who's in?

Jack,
Another thought could be Fairlee Creek July 4th weekend (Sat-Sun or Fri-Sun). I think you might get a much bigger turn out there, I've never been but I hear its great.

Fairlee usually has fireworks sometime this weekend. It can be a zoo in there for fireworks, but it is always a good time!

Fairlee and fireworks are fine if there is enough interest. It wouln't be my first choice because it does get so crazy.

Jack, I've never been to Fairlee but only heard good things. Crazy how?? I'm in wherever you choice but limited on weekends in July.

I'll try to join in wherever it is, but the July 4th weekend is going to be rough for a lot of folks with other cruises and gatherings. If its all we got, it's all we got though!

The Admiral is not big on being in the midst of a lot party boats blasting music late into the night. Also, I believe I've heard stories of yahoos running into other boats. That said, whatever the majority says goes. Have not heard from many yet but perhaps its too soon to plan.

Speaking for myself only,

That is quite a ways for me to travel. I live up the Patomac about half way to DC and that would be more that a days cruise for me. Wish it could have been down lower in the Bay then I think more people from the Patomac and Norfolk area would come.

You all have a great time and post some pics for us to view.

With the cost of fuel and the running time, its not easy to find one place that's best for all. That's why we need more than one event. I'd love to make the run to Atlantic City but that's just gunna happen this year. Perhaps you could get one started further south?

Jack,
Im in no matter where you decide depending on the weekend.

Is the raft up idea still alive? sounds like its no longer connected to the weekend at Mears Pt Marina.

The raftup isn't connected to the weekend meetup at mears point. There was talk of it being later in the summer (July 2013) but havent heard a final date yet on that. That's not to say we can't have an informal raftup on the way out of kent narrows somewhere that weekend. Maybe in Eastern Bay somwhere, the Magothy, annapolis/severn, or Rhode river... just ideas.

Apologies to all for not keeping this going. I'm concerned about organizing something I won't be able to follow through on. We have a bum starboard engine so don't really know what the summer holds for us. We're not awash in cash to make the repair.

That said, our preference would be Conquest Beach as that is very close and we could possible get there OK at "trawler speed".

That said, everyone should just chime in and get a raft going. Is there going to be an Aquapaloza in the Bay?

Giving this thread a bump to see if we can reinvigorate it and get something going. As I recall the issue was finding a good date for the event. Also, I recall Conquest Beach being one suggestion for a meet up. Below are other recent recommendations from the crew from the gathering this weekend.

Fairlee Creek or the Horse Farm is the best place for a large protected raft up. Also Jub Cove up here on the bodkin. They have a water Taxi to take you to the joint.

Anyone have other thoughts? We've done several big raft ups in the Rhode River around the island which have worked out well.
