This years MarineMax AquaPalooza at Tices Shoal is 10AM to 4PM on Saturday, July 18. Anyone going? Hope to see boats I have become familar with from this site. See ya there.

Dave,

I have to work that week end... But we live and TR and are always looking for more people to raft up with... We monitor 72... Are you going to AC for the 4th???

We just bought a 2007 240 DA and plan to visit Tices Shoal this year. We have heard a lot about it but don't know much. How do you approach this area and tie up with others? Is it always busy on the weekends? Do a lot of boats anchor up overnight here on a regular basis? Just curious as we know nothing about this area but really would like to visit. We also have a heard a lot about the F Cove too. If you have info on this, it would a huge help. We are not 100% sure where they are located too. We are going to be slipped at the end of the Metedeconk River in Brick by rt 70 (74?)

Hoping to see you in the water!

Tices is nice. It's a little crowded on good weather weekends, but otherwise a nice place. We might go this year. We skipped last year as my wife wasn't in the mood that day, so I just buzzed down on the PWC.

We're on the Metedeconk. Nice river. Skip the f-cove. There's a shoal at the entrance, which restricts water flow. The water in there is therefore hot and stagnant. We went once and were underwhelmed. When my wife got out of the water and found new new and expensive bathing suit was permanently stained from the water, that was it. On the other hand, the f-cove is crowded and noisy. Some of the people there are... umm... unusual. Every now and then some friends and I will motor though there on our PWCs and goggle at the freak show.

Best regards,
Frank

Personally, I would not want to be in the Marinas near the Pilot House on Rt 70. It looks like a nice place, and the food at the Pilot house itself is good, but the marina location leaves much to be desired in my view.

I personally am scared to try that channel at night. . and that just would restrict too much of my boating. I bet coming home in a storm would be no fun either. Or on a day where the tides are abnormally low. . .

I am sure if you did that run every day, you would view it differently, but the marina's on the Meteconck sound like a smarter move don't they?

Anyone else share my view of that area?

First I'd like to say OSD9, you're awesome. Those pictures of the area were perfect and yesterday we spent the day at Tices Shoal. It was very easy to find since there were so many boats anchored up! We passed right by the F-Cove and saw a line up to get in and a ton of boats beached at about 11:30am. I think we may try the F-Cove on a weekend first to see if we like it.

We ate dinner last night at the Pilot House. We ate here before but I didn't remember the food being so good. VERY reasonably priced and the food was excellent too. We just walked over from our boat which is at Brennan's Boat Co on Rt 70.

Commsnark, I haven't navigated the channel during any sort of weather other than perfect so I can't tell you how it would be. I can tell you that it is clearly marked and tightly spaced so navigating it can't be very difficult even in reduced visibility. Plus my handheld GPS would help in those conditions I'm sure.

We're headed out again today for more exploring of the area. Couple of days ago we went up the canal and looked at the wharfside Lobster shanty which looked fun. I think we may check out that patio bar today for a couple of hours and head back in early since the weather is planning to hit this evening.

Anyone have any recommendations on great dock and dine places from Toms River to the Manasquan? We're looking for more options.

It's a little further than what you are asking, but not much further south than a run to Tices.....

Six of us, three couples, went to the Bay View Terrace Restaurant in the Key Harbor Marina in Waretown last night.....

The restaurant is BYOB. The Marina and Restaurant are owned seperately, but they work together nicely. We called ahead and the Marina personnel were very pleasant and we were directed to a courtesy slip on the A-Dock. The marina is an easy in/easy out location, with an entrance channel practically due West of ICW 42 (actually 310 deg).....

You can't beat the views from the restauarant....it's right on the edge of the Bay directly across from the Barnegat Inlet. You look out over the bay and watch the boat trafic.

The food and servcie were both excellent..We shared three appetizers, and each had choice of soup or salad with our dinners. We brought three bottles of wine (I drank water...I was at the helm)....but they have an arrangement with a local liqour store that will deliver your choice of beverage right to your table. We then shared some home made desserts with coffee. All six of us agreed that we will be going back.

Dom,

I was not aware of Bay View before, it looks like a nice place. I will definitely try it sometime this Summer. Do you know if they provide overnight slips like the Captain's Inn does? I like evening dinner trips and do not like returning at night. Thanks for the info.

Dave:

They have slips for available for overnight, but I would think you'd have to pay a per foot fee for that service. I'd call the marina and explain that you want to come in for a late dinner and expect to leave early in the AM....they may cut you a break on the fees...if not, get there early and enjoy the pool, tennis courts, view and a dinner....

Thanks again for all the great recommendations! BTW, we stopped, by land, into the old Ann's on the Metedeconk (now Antonio's) and picked up a menu. They are open, they have a couple of transient slips, and they have the basic bar type food with a few extras thrown in. Prices seemed reasonable, even for Breakfast. We are a 5 minute ride from here so we plan to stop this week for a meal to check it out. We'll report back.

I'm in that marina on C dock. Stop by and say hello.

Great!! Will do if the weather holds up on Thursday for dinner and brick fireworks. We are planning to anchor by windward beach on Thursday evening to see the fireworks. Since I've never driven at night, I figured it would be a simple drive back to my slip by the pilot house.

We're still learning the area too. We have visitors for the weekend or we'd love to join that AC trip on Friday. Maybe next year.

Tices Shoal AquaPalooza, I plan on going (weather permitting) It is like a circus you can expect to see a lot of clowns.

We'll probably be down tonight and see the firework it they have them considering the rain. Usually watch from the docks and avoid bumper boats afterwards. We're leaving tomorrow morning for A.C.

We were there last Sunday. It was very nice with SE winds and not having zoo of boats. Tices is #1 spot where some time ago I've learned that there are all kind of boaters out there.
