Sorry for the non-Sea Ray content. At least I put this thread in the holding tank.
I just wanted you guys to see this.
Here are all the new trends. Big windsheild, hardtop/sedan, large plexi windows below the rubrail etc. etc.....
However, they sure did a nice job with the proportions, the windows, and most importantly the sheerline (where the rubrail is)
Look how nice and straight and smooth that is. This is the issue I have with the new Sea Ray's. That sheerline is all over the place and it is getting worse. On the new models it doesn't even make it halfway down the boat before it droops. To me it makes the boat look bent, not sleek.
So this "kind of" what one would look like with a straight sheer....

This boat is not even in production, just a design. Nice.. We will see if they ever build it.

Funny,

looking at that pic next to my avatar, the lines are almost identical to my 580.
no wonder I like it..

Chris is doing some great design work on their hulls. It's their interiors, both cabin and cockpit, that don't work so well.

Best regards,
Frank

I will give it to Sea Ray on the interiors. They have come a long way there....

Nice design. With these proportions, without knowing the real lenght you could'nt say if it is a 30 footer or a 40+ footer.

Hard tops, tall/strong windshields (so you can walk up the frame to the top for housekeeping), and airconditioned, weather tight helms become powerful marketing features to boaters who have spent 40 years on boats that stress openess and sunshine. The sun takes its toll and practical designs like this allow you to cruise in comfort without the worry of addtional sun expousure.

kinda looks like a decapitated bridge boat.

The new Chris Crafts are certainly a upgrade over the poor designs in the 80's and 90's but I'll go with the lines of the Sea Ray as more to my liking and most likely more boaters in this size range market will agree with me as indicated by Sea Rays sells in relation to others. Sea Rays new 2009 43 and 50 foot Sundancers are beautiful Sport size yachts with new innovations to enhance their style and performance. However, I would take time to view this new Chris Craft should they come into production.

I agree on the sheer issue 100%.
Don't know if I'm sold on the IPS concept yet, but it sure is becoming popular, and being able to place the engines so far aft allows for a full beam Master- that's a big + for most buyers...

I've got to question the longevity of the electric sliding mooroofs and rear cockpit "walls" in the marine environ, but it is a really neat idea- it allows you to have a convertible and an express in the same boat. Want an open air express? Slide up the back wall, open the moonroof and voila! Want an air-conditioned and weathertight salon ala a bridge boat, close it up...I'm surprised SR hasn't done this yet. Here's the link to the rest of the pics:

And, no offense Al- given that it was your first post and all- but many here (including me) would take exception the "poor design" for two decades comment. I'll stack my decades old 390 up against any 39' express- ancient or new- in terms of layout and useable space.

I think he was referring to the poor ChrisCraft designs of the 80s and 90s, not SR.

I personally don't like the droopy nose thing on Sea Rays... it doesn't make any sense and to me detracts from the looks. It's like those women's pants that have a zipper on their butt instead of the front... makes no sense.

droopy nose thing

I do believe Arch Mehaffey's design, originated in the mid 1960s, is called the "Reverse Sheer." How dare you - blaspheme!

I have to admit I do like the looks of the 60 foot Sea Ray Sundancer with the glass doors behind the helm area. Is theer a smaller Sea Ray Sundancer one can get with the doors for closing the aft section?

Where is Gary? I hope not around...:smt043:smt043But I have to admit the 58 foot Tiara Sovran looks pretty good.
