Hey Todd,

Any idea why I can't view the pictures? Could there be some fire wall settings at my company's server preventing me from viewing them? :smt017

Some are, some are not. :smt017 But I honestly think that it's a fire wall issue as I can view them just fine over my web-enabled phone. :smt021 Maybe I'll log on from home to enjoy the scenery...

Finally got a chance to log on from home to view the pictures posted in this thread - wow! :smt038 Absolutely gorgeous scenery! You were right. Viewing such grand land and sea scapes on a tiny little phone display just doesn't do them justice. Now I REALLLY can't wait for our trip to the SJ islands!

Todd,

Thanks for the additional images. Of course, I'll have to wait until I can log in from home to view them. Oh well.

As to our little group of possible 6-8 boats joining this board's group, I think there's a higher likelyhood that we might be able to meet up with you somewhere rather than join voyages and itineraries. From talking to the other boaters in our group I believe that their intent will be to push further north into Canada this year. Additionally, we were told that it might be difficult for large groups of boats to find adequate docking, etc. But you never know. My wife and I have talked about it a little and might actually prefer to stay within or at least closer to the SJ islands than the rest of our group might choose to do. This being our first trip up there we might choose to do your iteniary rather than our group's. As such we are watching this thread closely to see how the dates and iteniary might work out for us. Personally, we are not yet committed either way and will likely keep our options open for some time. Also, our group may be doing a couple of different itineraries "concurrently", ie have part of the group push northward whereas the other part stays in the islands. My wife and I aren't (yet) involved in the planning of the trip, being novices to this particular venture. Regardless, we are up for the adventure and will be taking our boat up there for a 2-week trip next year in the summer - one way or another. :smt001

Wait, this is NEXT YEAR?? I've been waiting in Anacortes all this time for nothing?

I'm looking forward to it and I'm planning to take four weeks off next summer! A couple without pay since my not so generous employer only gives us three weeks MAX!! :smt013

One quick question. I'm not opposed to going a whole two weeks without a shower, but my wife is a little concerned. I'm assuming most of the marinas will have a spot to take a shower? At least every other night or something like that? Pumpout stations or should I rig my porta-macerator up now?

I'll have to wax the boat too? ARGH, so much to do between now and then!!!

Sundancer,
Yes there are many facilities for us and as we get nearer I'll have all of the spots listed with the facilities listed so we know and I'll make the itinerary such that we have proper facilities in intervals in case there are nights on the hook sprinkled in between nights at marinas.

Some of the places in BC are the cleanest shower/bathroom facilities you will find. Maple Bay in particular is virtually spotless.
I can't wait

Ok UPDATE: So far here's what we got

Can we add
Go Aweigh To?

If you want to add your self "quote" the List and slip your name in.
Now that it seems we're concentrating on the beautiful San Juan's and BC Gulf islands here's my proposed itinerary:
Friday July 18th
Be prepared to depart 2PM from Anacortes trailerable boats: Swinhomish Slough or Washington park
Larger Boats needing haul out Capabilities: Cap Sante Marine[/quote] orSkyline
Let's do a quick Cruise 45 mins- 1 HR to Lopez Island. I think a short run will get everyone into the spirit of the San Juan Islands and enough time in the evening to get to know one another and relax - Lopez Islander
Saturday July 19th
I think we should run up to what I have always considered the jewel of the San Juan Islands; Roche Harbor. Roche Harbor is on the NW corner of San Juan Island. There is quite a bit to see. There is so much history and tradition at Roche it's a sentimental favorite.
Sunday July 20th
Cruise from Roche Harbor on the West side of San Juan Island in the De Haro Straight to Victoria B.C. on Vancouver Island. This will be our best opportunity to view the Majestic pods of Orca whales.......also I have not been to Victoria by boat. I will go this summer but I can't wait
Monday July 21st
spend some additional time siteseeing in Victoria then Run to the famous Buchart Gardens- Brentwood Bay
Tuesday July 22nd
A nice day Cruise to Nanaimo - Fuel and Groceries
Wednesday July 23rd
Cross the Georgia Straight and head towards Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast - - Fuel and Groceries
This crossing will need to be early in the AM to avoid the potential rougher water which kicks up in the mid-mornings and afternoon. Late evenings are usually really nice too, but I usually avoid that in case of any unforeseen problems (don’t want to get caught out there in the dark.
Thursday July 24th
Run from Pender Harbour to Lund up through the Agamemnon channel Past my Uncle’s Island if he still owns it then (either way, stop for Clams and Oysters for this nights appetizers) Lund is the southern gateway to Desolation sound. This is the last chance for Fuel and groceries for a two day stint on the hook in Prideaux Haven in Desolation Sound. There are other spots in the Western Desolation area but Prideaux Haven’s in the Marine Park where there are no facilities.
Friday July 25th and Saturday July 26th
Relax and play in Prideaux Haven on the hook
8-20-06.jpg

Sunday July 27th
Pick another Desolation Destination – it’ll be too soon to leave. People may be ready for a destination with facilities.

Monday July 28th
Head south to Princess Louisa Princess Louisa
This should one of the longest but most scenic jaunts. We will have opportunities to fuel returning back by Lund or I think it would be better to reach Egmont back in Jervis Inlet to refuel and run into Princess Louisa. From Egmont, Prince of Wales Reach, Princess Royal Reach, and Queen's Reach take you almost to the head of Jervis Inlet.
Princess Louisa Society
There is limited dock space here so we should all be prepared to anchor again.
Caldwell2003102.jpg

Tuesday July 29th
Head south back past Pender Harbor to Secret Cove
Wednesday July 30th
Head back across the Straight of Georgia to Telegraph Harbour. Stopping at Nanaimo again is certainly do-able and we will have plenty of time to get to Telegraph Harbour (40 Minutes or so South of Nanaimo)
Thursday July 31st
Ganges is a nice little town
Friday Aug 1st
Bedwell Harbor aka Poet’s Cove
Take this day to treat ourselves to a nice dinner if our credit cards aren’t smoking too much from fuel :smt009 . Either way – it’s a great little marina/resort. Swimming pool and wonderful people.
Saturday Aug 2nd
Hey it’s Saturday, so Let’s go to Friday Harbor  . Bring your Passports because we’re back in the states now and need to clear Customs. Shopping, Fuel, Groceries
The last Day/Night , Sunday we’re scattering and hopefully everyone has had a great time!

If you are talking summer of 2008, I am in for sure and in fact my wife and I plan to move our boat to the Sound next summer to explore.

We'll be sorry to miss you on the lake next year! But I can certainly understand the desire to have a larger boat (like yours) in the islands.

Hope to at least see you at this event.

We would love to join the group, but may only make 6-7 nights of it. Thanks so much for putting this together. I'll be watching closely for details.

Looks good to me. How old are your kids? I have soon to be 17 YO, 14 YO and Twin 5YO's. Not sure if the big kids are joining us at this point since everything is on a minute by minute decision basis now anyway, but we'll at least have 2(then they'll be 6)
Will you be caravaning with GenGiant?

Glad to see there will be other youngsters. Christopher will be 12 in Dec, Andrew turns 8 next week, and Jenessa will be 5 at the end of January.

GenGiant and I have exchanged greetings here, but haven't hooked up. Not a bad idea to careen up I-5 together.

Our rough plan is to leave Sacto late morning on the 16th and drive to Medford or Grants Pass (about 6-8 hours depending on stops) and sleep in the boat. On the 17th we'll go at least up to Longview or Olympia (get past Portland to avoid morning rush) and catch a good sleep and shower in a motel. Then drive the last 3-4 hrs to B-ham with a noon arrival.

That should give us enough time to fuel, provision and launch.

How is parking Swinomish Channel? Secure, safe?

Sounds like you've given it some good thought.

Figure once you get through Portland just keep heading North until you get through Seattle another 45-1hr north in Marysville is my place. You won't need to go all the way to B-Ham, Anacortes is 30-40 minutes south of there.
Swinhomish is pretty good. I haven't heard of any issues, but 14 days is a long time. I don't think at Washington Park we can stay that long. I'll verify all of this for sure. I may be able to arrange offsite parking and a shuttle that can bring us all from the offsite (spot 2-3 miles away and secure) back to the crew and launch. Both Launches depend on tides. We'll try to pick that early afternoon lauch at at least 2-3 hrs into a rising tide.
7-18-08 Tides
Day High/LowTide Time Height/Feet

F Jul 18 High 3:42 AM 7.1
F Jul 18 Low 11:20 AM -1.7
F Jul 18 High 7:32 PM 8.2

A 2 PM departure will be good

Arrival on Aug 3 is not online yet
