I thought they were trailer grease?
OK, THAT is some funny stuff! I'll note that as an alternative next time I'm left stranded and need some emergency grease in Oregon!!

I just hope the Southern group can get off the docks at Victoria in time to make it to Friday Harbor for the final rendezvous! :)

Is that the big plan...
...Hang out in Victoria for 11 days?

Plan? PLAN? We don't need no stinkin' plan! As long as we're on the boat, who cares WHERE we are! We'll be as happy as a tornado in a trailer park! I think we're headed around the horn to Butchart after Victoria, seems like we had a stop or two a long the way, then East to Poet's cove or something like that. It's up in the thread somewhere, but we're flexible and it could change! Weather might pin us down somewhere, you never know.

Todd,

the zebra mussels weren't all bad for the Great Lakes. After some initial concerns (clogging of water intakes mainly), the zebra mussels actually have helped to clean up the water. Now we have "fishflies" for a month, instead of 1 - 1.5 weeks, white fish spawning in the Detroit River after many years absence.

the next scare was the dreaded Gobi. All thought the introduction of this foreigh species would decimate the local fishery. Guess what? All the local fish (perch, bass, walleye) have feasted on the Gobi and the fishing has been the best it has ever been. Smallmouth Bass consistently over 3lbs. and lots of them!

Now Don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating the introduction of these foreign species, just pointing out that it was not all bad...

Your mention of bringing zebra mussels into Washington will now preclude me from bringing my boat out for this trip. Unless I can be assured that none of these critters are along for the ride.

Sounds like ya'll have a great itinerary set up! Enjoy!

Gregg

Thanks Gregg.
Yeah we have plenty of other issues, and depleting the local fishing is not a good thing.
So it'd be nice not to have them........

Pressure wash the boat and come on out.

Todd, your dates are wrong... Aug 1st is a Friday...

BTW, made reservations at Roche (no $ required) for 18 July, and Friday Harbor (CC on file for FRIDay 1 Aug - 3 Aug Sunday)

Good Catch. I just fixed it.
I just sent out The Big E-mail.
If anyone didn't get it, I may not have your e-mail address.
If you know that someone wanted to get it and they're not listed please forward it to them.
I'll have to resend it with the July 31st Date corrected.

Thanks for the catch Doug.

Check list check list check list!!!!!

Go to the below link and save in your favorites. It has downloads of my checklist that you can download for your own use. I have all stuff I intend to bring that is not normally on my boat. Also, send me an email off that page if you want to add to the cruise check list. I'll add your input in a different color type and update the date next to the hotlink.

If you find a good map that you want to add to the site, send it to me and I'll hotlink that also... The maps I hotlinked are general use only for reference. Anyone wanting to build the route can also send that to me and I will post it as well. Anything else you want to add, just pass it along.

Doug, this is great and tremendously.
As Mighty Mo stated, she's is a list maker and an organizing wizard. We have ever conceivable slot filled on Nehallenia II in bins, boxes and separate containers. Our "Galley" was a rubbermaid with all the kitchen utensils and gear. We're excited to fill the cupboards and "Extra Space" we have. I know it'll fill up fast but it's all new so far.

A couple items to add/mention.
Desolation is a great spot to snorkel in. Bring your mask and fins(I'll have mine)

Also,
Garden Bay in Pender Harbor has a Thriftway (I believe it is) also, with a liquor store. The store has any thing you may need food, sundries or snack attack. There is also a hardware store within walking distance from Garden Bay.
I have a few feet of heater hose left over from my heater install and may bring some of that, just in case anyone has an issue.

Two weeks is a long time on the boat. I just want to make sure there will be plenty of these in the San Juans:

Well, this photo was taken in 2000... check out the top right of center sign... Desolation Sound was Starbucktised back then...

I would not go without coffee...
MVC-006L.JPG

But that's on LAND! I'd have to get OFF my boat to get coffee there? I want a boat through!! That picture was taken on Lake Washington, so maybe we can coax this guy to the San Juans for a couple of weeks? I don't want an upset Admiral!

There's absolutely nothing that beats sitting on the back of the boat at first daylight with a steaming cup of coffee in hand! ... except for maybe doing the same at sunset with a margarita in hand.... (~;

You got that right.

I boycott Starbucks. Friday Harbor has a nice little coffee stop, I don't recall the name but it's right next to the ferry line. Yeah, sorry Jim it's on land. But I can bring it back to my boat, then drift out into the middle and charge you Starbucks prices:huh:

I bring my own 100% Columbian coffee, make it strong like a 4 shot Americano and store the remains in a stainless steel thermos for drinking during the day... :smt101 works for me. (If I can see the bottom of the cup with less than 1/8 inch of brewed coffee in it, I've failed to make it strong enough)... :wow:

There may be more than one Iclandic person on this trip... Incase that is a deal breaker for anyone?
