Guys,
I'm wondering if anybody has any detailed instructions on tools needed and even pictures of the procedure for removing my props.

I'm also wondering if anybody knows what size and material props SeaRay installs on these model boats with the 8.1 Vdrives. The Propscan folks were asking me that info and I unfortunately didn't know it.

I got some advice on the phone today about the procedure, but I want to make sure I fully understand it before I go over to the yard...

Thanks,
Tim

You need a prop puller. You can buy them on line. Since I rarely need to pull a prop, I just paid my marina to do it. If you are going to invest in a spare set of props, then also get a puller, otherwise just pay someone.

The propellers are nibral. My old girl has 17x17" props. Don't know about your boat, but it should be in the specifications or parts list documents with the boat.

Best regards,
Frank

Thanks Frank - and silly question; is it a foregone conclusion that a prop puller is required?

Thanks,
Tim

Yes, unless you want to break something. The props are installed on a tapered shaft. The nuts snug the props tightly on the taper and then the prop thrust makes them even tighter. No cheating with a BFH here!

Frank

Check with the prop shop if they will lend you one.

The information / instructions Tony posted here looks good.

He uses a torch to expand the prop so it's easier to remove from the shaft.

Depending upon the interference fit, that may be all it takes to remove the prop, so that may be worth a try first.

FYI, if anybody needs to know the prop specs on the same make/model as I have, I heard back from my service department -

The props that are on your boat should be teinbridge propeller's. They were
made out of bronze \ nickel bronze. The boat has two different size blades.
The Port side will have a 18"x22"x4.85" left hand 4 blade cupped. The
starboard side will have a 18"x21.5"x4.85" right hand 4 blade cupped. Both
props use a 1.5" bore. I know this sounds weird however that is normal
because of the rotation of the engines.

They are not a big player, but since Merc bought them in 2002, they did have some steady business from SR, but not so today. Many of there designs are "copies" from other manufacturers. Not a good way to run a propeller business IMO.
