Hello, new to the forum. just bought a 2007 27' searay amberjack. single 6.2 merc w/ double prop. Finally got to really run it full speed yesterday and was kind of horrified at the performance. It was a lot of work to run. I've had a 23' outboard for 15 years and expected a big adjustment, but at times felt unsafe. Serious listing at times under full power to the point it would start turning. Seemed to go both ways. I know the boat won't flip, but with little kids on board, it was pretty scary. My hands are tired from working the trim and tabs. Flat calm day on the ocean and it seemed to happen randomly, no wave or gust of wind. I know i need to get a little better with the trim tabs (they seem to be opposite of my last boat), but this can't be right. I ran it for over an hour to stellwagen and back and never once felt comfortable or in real control. I read several older threads and it seems this is not uncommon since 2006+/- when they redesigned the hull. It sounds ike i'm not alone, but that doesn't make me feel any better. I believe this is the same hull as the 26' sundancer. Has anyone experienced these problems and found a solution? other than distributing weight on the boat? Just bought it and have no desire to run it again with kids other than low speed putting around (which is also hard to keep a straight line), which is not what i bought if for. very discouraged. Thanks for any input!

Maybe your're using too much trim... they will get squirrely if so. I have heard that the 260 in those years is like that also.

Congratulations (I think) and welcome to CSR!

research old posts by user DaveS in the 260 DA thread.......it involves moving the celery sticks in the outdrive rams to get it tucked in further and using a certain technique to adjust......IIRC it completely solves the problem.....Very well known issue with that hull

I will check out that former thread. thank you.
I ran it pretty good for a few hours yesterday, seems like it did not matter which position the outdrive or the tabs were.

There are external spacers on the outdrives where the rams bolt on.....they look like a piece of celery, you cant see them until you remove the bolt/cover.....reversing there position gives you more travel and allows the drive to "tuck in" further....as I understand it, this helps make the difference.....along with Daves technique.....Good Luck

Thanks again for the info, finally found the post from DaveS and think the trimming tricks will definitely help. I just need some time by myself out there to play around with it.
As for the celery sticks, do you know if that is that more just to get up on plane, or does that help the listing problem as well? I'm willing to do anything to be happy with this purchase, but do not have a trailer, so don't want to pay to haul if that will just help the plane, not the random listing.
thanks again!

Someone else recently made a similar post about their new to them 270 AJ. I gave them some pointers that should help you. Do a search.

I've have mine for 11 years and the only time it lists like you describe is when the trim tabs are our of whack - either misadjusted, over adjusted, or the fuse blew and were stuck. A little trim goes a LONG way.

BTW, the 270 AJ is considered a sport cruiser not a sport boat.

Sounds like there is hope. Thanks for the replies. Eager to get back out and play around with.
