Hi all,

This will be my first boat so please help me out with your comments. I have been looking for a crossover for fishing and cruising. Came acoss this 2007 Amberjack 250 and I really like layout of the boat. It is currently winterized and shrinkwrap at the seller's backyard. I will need to schedule a marine mechanic to inspect the boat and also need to hire a boat transport to deliver it to my mariner which is an hour away. What should I be looking for during the inspection since the boat is not in the water?

Thanks.

I just bought an 07 Weekender in June.

I am certainly no expert on buying a boat, but, I would start with the present owner, in person, if possible, and try to get as much information regarding the boat's history as you can.

If you are still interested at that point, I would do, as thorough as possible, a visual inspection of every detail. If the boat is still working for you, after that, it would be prudent to get some "expert" (engine mechanic, boat surveyor) to help you.

I didn't but my boat was trailered and appeared to be "show room" in every detail. I went with intuition regarding the seller and "boat history". I technically did everything you shouldn't do when buying a boat, I didn't float it or run it, and I was lucky. I wouldn't recommend that method.

Make sure you do a sea trail. Under no circumstancse should you buy the boat without doing a sea trail. I bought a 2006 and broke that cardinal rule and it did come back to bit me. I had a surveyor do everything on land and it looked great. Launched the boat and it starting taking on water. Don't make the same mistake I did.
