I know read somewhere that it is frowned upon to post in multiple folders but I think my question may not have been in the correct folder. I originally posted this in the newbie folder but it was suggested that I ask for broker input. I'm trying to get a feel for what a boat like this should sell for in the Houston TX area. The asking price is $139K. It is extremely clean and hardly used freshwater only 340 with the 8.1 horizon engines with 220 hours. Appears to have been kept under a covered slip. It has the blue hull, 5kw generator and the usual amenities that you would find on this boat including remote spotlight, upgraded amplified stereo. Does anyone have any info on comps?

Look through YachtWorld.com and BoatTrader.com to see the asking prices.
Most boats will sell for less than asking. A boat is only worth what someone will pay.
If you like the boat and it checks out OK, make an offer and see where it go's..

Like I said in the PM I think you are in the right range for the year and options you describe. Probably on the low end so rest easy its a good deal. You are not going to find many folks that are willing to divulge their price on a public forum thus why I asked you to PM. It's hurts our resale.

Brokers have access to a website that has "comps." If you're working with a broker (ie: this is not a private sale), he/she can get that info for you.

Todd, the wife can't be in the direct sunlight anymore, the kids are grown and practically gone. The last time I used the boat for the entire day was at a raft up in September.

Being self employed DOES have it's disadvantages too. When I make my calls to my friends to invite them out, everybody is working.

So, I figured it's time to get out for a minute. I still have my jet ski though and I still got my Boating buddies too. They have a 380AC, 380DA, and a older 340 with a beam so big, we play ping pong on her.

Sorry to hear that man. I got melanoma a few years ago & had it removed. I keep my tops up & my sunscreen on. I hope ur wife is well & can make it out in the future. That's what concerns me about stepping up. If I get all this space only to have the kids bail in a few years. If its me & my wife only, this boat is great! Best of luck with the sale, though I fear it will be a sad day.

Do these boat have titles? What is the specific documentation proving ownership. What can I expect that happens at the closing. I will be paying cash but I understand that the boat does have a bank loan against it. The broker I'm dealing with is less than helpful.

Titles: depends on the state the boat is in. Some states title boats, some don't. You can check with your dept of motor vehicles to find out. I googled Lake Conroe and if that's in Texas, read HERE
If there's a loan (lien) against the boat, the owner may not have the title (the bank may be holding it). If he does have the title, it will have the name of the lienholder on it (Bank of America, Chase, whatever). This has to be signed off by the lender to prove that the loan has been satisfied. I'm not sure how that works if the guy needs YOUR cash to pay off the loan. Just don't hand over the money unless you have a CLEAN title.

I'd get my own broker in on this deal so he can look after your best interests. The other broker probably won't be happy about this, as he will have to split the commision coming to him, but a broker that's in your corner is a good thing to have. Good luck
