Going to see a 2007 260 Sundancer on Sunday.

This will be our first boat, but we wanted something we can overnight with. Living in Atlantic Canada, the east coast has allot of beautiful spots to visit and my wife and I want to dock and visit spots on our bikes.

Looking for some some advice on the boat choice. Is the learing curve to high for a first boat?

What to look for when I look at it? What extras sold I consider essential? etc

Thank you

Wife and I bought our first cruiser in June-2006-260 Sundancer. She has never been on boats much, but I have spent considerable time on smaller vessels-nothing much like this. Certainly never one with all of the systems the 260 has. Initially, docking was a challenge. However, practice makes perfect and I am much better now. Bringing the 260 up on plane can be an issue for some if you read enough on here, quite a few actually. If you will search for posts by Dave S. you can learn most all you ever need to learn about at 260 Sundancer. I have followed his instructions to the letter and have not had one issue with handling the boat. I recommend reading his posts and hiring a surveyor for inspection.

As for equipment, we wanted the arch, a generator, and windlass. We found the "perfect" boat for us and all it lacked was the windlass. I need the exercise anyway. Here in the south, nights can be warm and humid so the ability to run the AC while on the hook is a must have. We trailer our boat so we are on the hook most every weekend. I have bear hunted in Maine which is not too far from you and the nights seem much cooler there in late August than here so that would be your call.

Search for Dave S.'s posts and you will not go wrong. Some things have been a challenge, but we have not even put a scratch on it and are having a blast. Good luck!

If you are looking for a pocket cruiser, you will very pleased. Had ours for 5 years and loved every minute of it.

Great advice from bbwhitejr...Dave S. is the 260 DA man...My wife and (2) girls 9 and 12 love the boat more and more. Sure, every boat will never be 'big enough'...but this size works both economically and convenience wise. Had friends on 260 on Labor Day (one owns 40+ Post sport fish) and he told me again today how he couldn't believe how much 'group friendly' cockpit space there was on it to hang. I of course agreed and than asked him if he wanted to 'switch' boats the next time we squeeze (4) kids and (3) adults on it for an overnight?
