Hello all. We bought our new boat on Aug 4 and picked it up Aug 5 ready to ride. :smt038 We get to the ramp with our captain and find a ski well full of fuel. :smt017 I went to the glove compartment to find the plug when the glove compartment knob came off in my hand. :smt013 The captain took the boat back to the dealer. We were informed we would get another 210. We go to pick up the newer 210 the next weekend, got to the launch with our captain and found both batteries dead and the bimi unable to go down due to a busted pole. :smt089 We get new batteries and bimini off the other 210 with the fule leak.We go back the next day to finally go out on our 210 and finally cruising along the lake when all of a sudden the motor hatch blows open causing the pillow to fly off into the lake which in turn makes our walkway seat fly open.
Is anyone else having problems with their motor hatch and/or walkway seat flying up while cruising?

First of all, I cannot believe the issues you had/have with your new boat. That must have turned what should be a great time into a real pain. The only time my engine hatch blew open was when I stupidly tied my towable tube to it. The wind caught the tube and it blew open. No damage. I cannot imagine what would have caused yours to fly open unless it was partly open already?

Foxseallady -

Welcome to CSR!!! Sorry to hear about your troubles. We do not have many members yet with the new 210 or 230. Is the dealer taking care of your concerns? Sorry can't be more help but again welcome to the board!!!

Wesley

Thanks for the welcome and we still love our poor little boat! The dealer has been wonderful and I'm sure with the help of the Sea Ray engineers, we'll get the hatches fixed as well. We look forward to many years on our "speacial" boat.

Fox,

If this dealer is as haphazard as you say they are, then you should name the dealer. It's hard to believe a dealer would deliver your new boat in that condition (fuel in the ski locker?). Was it a MarineMax dealer? A call to the BBB seems appropriate.

Yes, it was a Marine Max. I can't believe that the manufacture let it leave TN without checking everything out, then I can't belive the service department at the local dealer didn't check everything out before they put it on the floor. And we had taken a demo ride on a 210 that was already in the water so we didn't have to trailer the boat. I also can't believe the hatches in the back are not secured in any way. A very weak magnet is all that is holding them down. We now have 4 bungee cords strapped on the back to hold everything down. :smt013

to keep price down manufacturer leave some things for dealer prep.
and MM to keep their cost down hires inexperienced workers - I wouldn't call them technicians

The fact that your ski well was full of fuel indicates to me that the dealer did absolutely ZERO PREP. The fact that your second boat was delievered to you with dead batteries confirms that your dealer is doing ZERO PREP. This dealer should be reported to the BBB and Sea Ray. When the second boat was delivered with dead batteries, I would have demanded a full refund and looked for another dealer. Since you have decided to keep this boat, please don't take it back to the dealer you bought it from for service. It's obvious the are complete idiots.

I'm scratching my head on this BBB thing.

A business can do business well or not. I don't think the BBB investigates a business for being sloppy or stupid. :smt043

I'm sure MM Corporate would be interested though. Gas in the bilge is an issue that put not only you, but their employees at risk, and you can't tell me someone couldn't smell it.

I'm not as an experianced a boater as many on this board. I have taken the Coast Gaurd Auxillery safety course though, and one of the things that was beat into our heads was to always check for fuel in the bilge. This isn't mearly (sp?) a cosmetic issue, it can be quite deadly if the batteries were to ignite the fumes.

You're right, and it's just common sense.

I still don't rely on the blower. I pop the hatch and do a quick inspect EVERY time I start the boat when launching. I leave it open while idling back waiting to get everyone on board. I don't mind looking silly sticking my nose down there looking for smells that don't belong.

I'm gonna throw some raw gasoline in my ski locker next time I take my boat out. I'll let the board know how it all goes. I want to know if that so called backfire flame arrestor thingy really works. Stand-by for further updates!

Thanks for the web info ruf1967. I wrote to them last night. Anyone know MM Corporate's address. I looked on their website and couldn't find it.
Both my partner and I are retired military and both took the safety course for boats thru the Navy. I stick my nose in the engine everytime as well, check oil, pull on belts, etc. That's why I couldn't believe that the MM Captain was going to "jump off" the batteries when the two were dead. I've read in the manuals to never jump off batteries. Is this true?
Latest saga on 210. The tape came off the side where blue meets white and the CNet cable keeps coming out. :smt009 It's a shame we have to bungee every hatch down, ride to our favorite spot, crawl under the helm to reattach CNet cable and we're finally kicking back. :smt100

Geez, I guess it didn't go so well. But you should have used a smaller boat to test with. :smt043

That's unacceptable for a new boat pick-up and demo. The boat should be prepped, clean and ready to go at the pick up time. It's not uncommon to develop a "punch list" of items that don't measure up over the first few months. Keep a list and turn them in to the dealer and they will repair or replace them to your satisfaction.

I would write a letter to the dealer explaining your initial disappointment about the situation and asks for some compensation on future service, merchandise or fuel. Forward it to Sea Ray if you don't get the response you deserve.

Keep us posted on your situation.

Sea Ray Jim,

Uh, I planned on putting gas in the ski locker but my moonshine ate though the plastic jug it was in. If you're wondering, moonshine cleans marine vinyl real well!

I assume in this boat that the ski locker is open to the bilge?

Fuel in the bilge is a really bad thing. "venting the bilge" is NOT meant to make the engine safe for this scenario. Nothing short of getting the fuel OUT would be acceptable. The boat probably had a fuel tank leak. Good you didn't get THAT boat.

Delivering the boat with dead batteries requires a similar level of competency. It certainly implies that the boat was not tested to see, umm, if it works.

I would start looking for other service options.

BTW: when you go for service, you do pay $80-$140 hour for work performed by those "inexperienced workers" that boatmailster wouldn't call technicians.

Now that, is alcohol abuse!! :smt043

Unlike what I did at the Rough Riders game and after events last night...now that was just body abuse!

Latest news on our 210. Marine Max installed two extra latches for the motor hatch and removed the magnets from the battery and walkway hatch and installed a latch. The service department stated they are having complaints about the seats so if anyone is buying or have a 2007 210 or 230 Select to have the service department go ahead and fix those seats before you are on the road and your hatches fly open.
