Weird problem i was having over the weekend commissioning the fresh water system. Every time i would try to fill the tank i could hear the vent hissing and could only get a few gallons in before i would get a geyser shooting, no lie, 5 feet out of the deck fill plate. I'm thinking that something built a nest in the vent line and am now getting back pressure in the tank. I also had some sort of fibrous material in the fresh water when i was running the faucet. At first i though this was because i was the first person to fill my boat up at the dock and they hadn't purged the lines, but the more i think about it something must of gotten in the vent line. So long story short, does anyone know how to access the vent line. My best guess is its in the cooler storage cabinet.

Has anyone had anything similar happen?

Maybe try bumping a shop vac on the vent outlet. See if it sucks whatever is in there loose. Not sure I'd go full-seal up against the gel coat with the hose right away, incase the suction is too strong. You could also try reversing the vac hose and blowing against the vent port briefly as well. If that's the issue, you may be fixed. Not sure what the fibrous stuff is unlesss you had alge grow in the tank at some point.

If the relief value was flipped up to vent when drained it may be still in the up position... Just flip the end of the relief down perpendicular to the water heater, and it should not vent anymore...

I get spiders and wasp nests in mine. I use the extra long zip ties and clear them out using one of those. You may also wanna try a long pipe cleaner. Whatever you do use it must be flexible but sturdy enough to push thru whatever is in there

Definitely sounds like a clog. Could be bugs in the vent -- although I think your vent is inside the cap? - meaning it's less likely to get bugs in there, although not impossible. If I had to guess, I would guess there's a "dip" in the line where water has accumulated -- somewhere between the tank and the fitting.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. I like the shop vac idea and trying to suck it out. I'll have to spin the boat around in the dock as the vent is on my open water side when sterned in. The vent comes out my port side hull just below the rubrail.

OK, if that's the case, then certainly check it for debris or critters. You won't hurt anything with a shop vac, so suck away. Take a peek, first, though. If no luck, then you're back to to tracing the line from the tank.

May be learning something new here... Where would I find a relief valve if I had one? I only knew about the vent that goes out the side of the hull and the fill port on the deck. Otherwise I thought the tank was one solid hollow plastic piece... fill port in, vent port out to hull, and water connection to main water system?

I've only put eyes on my water tank 2x and once was just to see where it was. In my boat its under the mid-cabin berth hidden under a secrewed-down carpeted panel that makes part of the berth support. I dont recall seeing anything "flippable"

Scott that is what my investigating surmised... To my dismay. Hopefully the vacuum route works
