Looking to replace my AC unit in the cabin. Was looking for size recommendations as 12k btu seems to small. Has anyone installed a Marineair 16k btu, or is that too big. Main concern is the duct work being too small. I boat in Michigan. Thank you in advanced

Don't do the 16k MarineAire, it won't run long enough and you'll wind up with a cool but more humid than you'd like cabin...

You might want to clarify which boat you have? The title says 340 but your signatures says 280...

My boat originally had a 10K unit. It could freeze you out at night, but would struggle in the day. I put a 16K unit in it. It will also freeze you out at night. It does much better in the day, but runs its tail off to do so. I wouldn't hesitate to have 20K in my boat.

I am in the desert southwest, so maybe other climates it would struggle, but these things are insulated so poorly with so many air leaks around cabin doors and such, it is very hard for me to believe my size unit would not run long enough even in a less harsh warm climate.

I actually went from the 12K to the 16K on my 320 and it has worked out very well. I purchased my unit from citimarine down in FLA. I was a direct bolt-in and the adaptor fit my duct work perfectly. The only change was I had to run a new wire for my thermostat.

14k then ? Per spec it seems to fit well

One thing to keep in mind is you are putting in newer technology than what's in there currently...the MarineAire is much more effective at cooling down the boat.

I replaced the 10k CruisAir in my Four Winns 358 (similar in size to the SR 340) with a MarineAire 14k. I like it cold. It would get cold but still be a tad humid when it was really warm out...the A/C didn't have to run long to cool it down, so it wasn't able to really pull the humidity out of the air.

Looking back, I should have went with the 11k....

New tech is something to think about. We went from an 16 original unit in the salon on our 500 down to a new Webasto 12. Here in NC where humidity is nuts during the summer, the Webasto cooled better and and cycled out much faster. The old unit would be in run cycle all day. Yes' it was clean, flushed and charged properly.

I put the 16 k unit in my 320 3 years ago, the boat is in fl and there are no humidity issues at all, I had to cut one of the table supports under the bed to get it to fit, also run a new tstat wire, the unit works well, also you will need an adapter for the duct work as the 16k unit output is square not round like my 320

Previous owner installed the 16k Marineaire unit just prior to selling the boat to us. I have nothing to compare it's performance to except to say it does a fine job heating and cooling the cabin to whatever the desired cabin temp. Live in E. TN, boat in the water year round and haven't experienced humidity issues yet. It appears the air discharge duct is opposite of the original unit as there was some ugly ducting in there, but after cleaning that up it seems to have plenty of air flow.

I know they make a adapter for the duct work.. now just have to get it all together, and decide which unit I want

Did you get the adapter from citi? If so do you have the part number?

Was that a CTM 16k from Citi? Just ordered the 16k CTM today as the pan on my 12k cruisair is rotting out. That 12k would run non stop on hot days and ive been told the 12k are actually undersize for the boat. Still happy you went with the 16k? Doesnt short cycle or leave the cabin humid from not running long enough?

12k from 2003 and 12k today are apples and oranges...the new units perform that much better.
