Hello,

I am trying to figure out the best place to locate a grill on my 2006 320DA, does anyone have any ideas?

No, strictly for cruising.

He didn't say fishing rod holders. Rod holders hold grills, speakers and all kinds of cruising accessories. Of course, they are still fishing rod holders.

They have grill mounts that can grab on to hand rails like the one across the transom locker. I actually installed rod holders on my boat, primarily for grilling, but also a little fishing when my Dad comes to visit.

Since I put the camper canvas in, I just set the grill on the swim platform to keep the smoke/steam/grease from hitiing the Stataglass.

thought there was a good post about this?????? Try doing a search for grill mounting

I mounted mine under the swimstep lid. I believe the 320DA has that, and I sure like it.
Shown here with a Portside tie, it's not great for boarding. But We normally tie to the starboard which is easier to board with the transom door on that side. It makes for a really nice set up.

Here's a Starboard side tie

Then I made a board and stow it in the bilge (of course without the Propane canister)

We have four flush mount rod holders, two to port and two to starboard. Also have one clamp on model on the rear grab handle on the trunk. Most of the time we use the trunk mount with our Newport grill. But, if the wind is working against us we use port or starboard. The Magma Newport grill fits nicely into the trunk with its fitted cover and we still have room for three fenders and lines.

Good thinking N!
Wish I still had that door, I'd put it in that spot in a second.
Green ball thingy for you!

Even simpler, I put a heavy duty rod holder on the flat step area near the transom door (port side). Got a rod holder grill mount adapter- works like a charm. In 10 seconds, I have the grill mounted..or not. Plus, it's away from the helm area and rear seating area. There is a plastic panel with about 8-10 screws in this area (behind the door) when closed. Pull this off, drill the hole and mount the rod holder. Use one of the holders that you use #8 or #10 SS bolts. Back them up with nuts of course. Item of note, when drilling the 2+ inch hole, put a blanket or something similar under the "future hole" this will catch all the fiberglass and debris that otherwise will fall into your bilge area. Also, be SURE and buy one that has the rubber cover on it when not in use. Add some silicone under the rubber gasket before you mount it. These two issues will keep water from dripping/running into the bilge area.

Here are a few pics of cutting the hole to install a rod holder on my300DA. I can't find any of the grill sitting in the rod holder. I have the Magma Newport.

I mounted mine on the gunnywale...posted pictures on a previous post. I'm sure it can be found via a search. I sue my boat strictly for cruising as well. I used the double flush mounts, which allows me to keep the grill mounted 100% of the time, even in high seas.
