Hi all,

We have been considering upgrading from our 21ft cc to the 270 amberjack. Wanted to see if there was anyone in the CT river area that had one any what they thought, also if there was any possibility of taking a look at there boat to see if it would fit out needs. With 2 small kids we would use the boat for fishing, cruising, and it would be nice to have the cabin for nap time. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I can confirm the cabin is a great place for little ones to nap. Pretty good for dads too. :) My 12 year old got tired last weekend and he has a very comfy-looking nap down there for about 90 minutes.

I have 2 kids and the 270 AJ is a great boat for exactly what you describe. I have not found a boat that does so many things as well.

I'm on Long Island but will be taking a trip to Waterford on the Niantic river soon. We might be able to meet up.

Thanks for the reply! That sounds great we are hoping to extend our time on the water with a little more space and comfort. We aren't too far from the Niantic river maybe we can work something out.

We typically spend a couple overnights on the boat each season. The kids sleep below and we sleep up top on an inflatable air mattress (no mid berth option for our model year). We have the optional layout with the back-to-back loungers on both sides and no livewell. I like that it give extra seating. I'm not that into fishing so the livewell would have been a waste for me. When folded down the loungers are good for a nap, but are too hard and narrow for overnight sleeping. Younger kids would probably roll off.

To make the boat work better for overnighting, I had some custom canvas work done. I had a camper canvas back made including screens on the side and back panels. I also had blackout curtains made for all the windows in the cockpit. They attach via snaps and velcro, and this made it much more practical for overnighting especially when at a dock.

LMK if yuo have specific questions; I'm happy to answer. PM me if you want info on when I'll be in Waterford.

You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the sleeping set up on the deck would you? We were thinking that the aft cabin would be a must but there are not as many of them on the market and the price is a little higher.

I’ll see what I can find. Not sure that I have one of the bed, but I might have with the blackout curtains. I’m going to the boat this week and I’ll see if I can get some pics.

The mid cabin became available with the 2007 model year. So the supply is necessarily less and the boats are newer.

While the mid cabin may be nice, I’m not sure how long it is in practice. I know the mid cabin on a 290 AJ is unexpectedly short. I like having the massive storage area under the cockpit.

Here are some photos of my sleeping arrangements.

V-berth. I just added an egg crate topper tonight. It’s very comfy now. The white fitted sheet something I whipped up on my sewing machine from an old top sheet and some elastic.

Cockpit. The mattress is a “full” size Coleman inflatable. A queen won’t fit.
