I need to pull an engine. The 2 rams have pins that can be pulled. If I do this will the hatch go back and be supported? Whats the procedure?

I don't think the hatch is supported at all outside of the rams. You will probably need a hoist or a forklift to raise the hatch because of the weight. Be careful - I did see a 340SDA a while ago on a salvage list that looked like the back hatch was cracked off at the hinges - the entire swim platform cracked along with it.

Ahhh. I'll have to make some calls. I just talked to my friend. Hes a Broker at Marine max. His mechanics sell and repair many Searays. He ssid he has seen them just lift the hatch straight up and strap it so it doesn't move. He is going to talk to them in the morning to get the exact procedure though.

Talked to my friend. He has one in the yard now with the hatch straight up. Said the mechanic does it all the time. He lifts it up and slightly back. Puts a strap on it and connects it to the arch so it doesn't go too far. I'm gonna take a ride by tomorrow and take a look how they did it. I'll take a few pics.

This is how I did mine when I re powered my boat... Its a 320 but more or less same boat, same hatch.... Just be careful it don't go too far back... It does have a lot of weight too it... And the worst part is putting the pins back in... Just remb if it goes duck.. Don't catch it... wont be able to hold it.... And make sure when u tie it in both directions the rope ain't in the way of the engine... I went to the middle cleat...

NICE!!. You have a perfect hole there to tie it back. I'm taking the port engine back also. I have to look to see where I can do that. I don't think I have a hole there. If I have to , I'll drill a hole and get a plug for it when I'm done. The other thing is the fork lift. He only has a boom like yours. I'll have to figure out a way to hold it back. Thanks for the pics.

Also while the engine is out... Don't forget to change the Shaft seals on both sides... Its easier to change them now while u have the room...

YUP! Shaft seals, Flywheel, Damper, Fuel filter on stringer. Check everything I can. I have to find out what seal I have. I believe that are Tides seals. Gonna replace the one there and get a spare carrier.

Went by the shop today. Had a 31 searay with hatch up. He said pull the pins and hinge it back just past the tipping point. Put some fenders between the platform and locker so it cant go all the way. Have someone with a rope tied through the access holes and let it go back then tie it off to a side cleat. So cool it doesn't have to come off...

I know this is old but I’m chasing a water leak and want to see the channel around the hatch hinges. I am thinking for investigative purposes to tilt the hatch back after removing the pins. I was wondering how you made out here and did you ever take pictures as we have similar if not the same hatch.
Where did you tie the ropes on the hatch? Will I need to have the yard do it or is this something a couple of friends can muscle?
Thanks
