The comp light will turn on but will not go out. This is controlled by the starboard switch pad. This is a push button type of on/off, it has a green light that is on when the light is on. When pushing the button the green light will blink and the light in the comp will blink but it will not go off. There is also a clicking in the forward EIM, hopefully this is not bad. I can turn the light off by turning the battery selector switch to off then when I turn the selector switch to on the light will stay off, until someone hits the button again.

Is the clicking continuous, or only once when you hit the button on the switch pad? When the Comp light is blinking do the other switches on the switch pad function properly?

The EIM boxes that are controlled by the switch pads contain circuit breakers and micro relays. So a single click each time you press a switch pad button is normal, it's the sound of the relay either engaging to energize the main circuit, or disengaging to de-energize the circuit. If this was a simple mechanical switch attached to a relay, I'd say the problem was with the relay. That being that when the low power, or trigger circuit collapsed by the switch being set to off, the relay wasn't snapping back to a de-energized state. That however is usually a mechanical issue, and shutting the power to the whole boat wouldn't necessarily reset the relay.

Complicating the issue is that the switch pads are more of a communication device that a switch. Pressing a pad sends a signal to the multiplexer in the EIM, that then interprets the signal and triggers the appropriate relay. So the problem may lie in the EIM's ability to properly process the signal.

The clicking is only when you hit the button. The light only blinks when you hit the button. All other lights/switches function normal.

so it sounds like it would not be the pad since it is sending a signal to the eim, but maybe a bad relay within the eim. Is this a full replacement or can you do maintenance on the eim?
