Im helping a buddy with a new to him 240 dancer. It has the shore flow toilet in it that looks like it has to lines off the back and go down the side to the ER. On the left side under the sink is a key and fuse that says macerator. In the ER there is a macerator hooked up to a sea cock. But i do not see a holding tank. If i turn key nothing happens. There is no fuse or switch on panels that says macerator to turn on. How do i work this? Was this just an option for the boat but Without a holding tank nothing actually hooked up. Any help would be great. He refuses to use it and wife is about ready to kill him untill he fixes it

Is this the self contained "porta-potti" style or the "vacu-flush" style?

I'm not familiar with a Shore Flow toilet - never heard of that brand, myself.

The normal setups from the factory would have been a porta-pottie or a VacuFlush. Pump-out, macerator and a holding tank were also available. Just because he has something that wasn't "factory" is not a bad thing... it just means it can make it harder to figure out over the internet since we don't know exactly what is installed there.

A holding tank would have been installed in the bilge by Sea Ray... I really can't imagine it being installed anywhere else. Is this "Shore Water" thing a porta-potti? The bottom of a porta-potti IS the holding tank.

A macerator SHOULD be installed with a seacock that has a interlock switch - only allowing the macerator to be able to be switched on when the seacock is open.

Does he know that it is illegal to use a macerator unless offshore in a legal dump zone?

Are there pump out fittings?

BUT... here's what, in my opinion, should be installed in this case... a porta-potti with lines run to pump-out fittings. Done. Nothing else. Keep in simple in a small boat. Porta-potti's can be had with extra large bottom sections (the holding tank).

Ok. My bad. It is a sea land toilet. Self contained but has 2 hoses that come off backside. By what it looks like it goes to a pump out port on the topside. Not a vacuflush. But does have a switch that says macerator and in ER there is a macerator pump. Just confused on why they put a pump in with this style porta potti. I was showing him how to take off and empty at the waste station. And yes. Explained the rules of pump out at sea. This is the style he has

OK, that makes more sense. Sea Ray, or a previous owner, could have added the macerator option. Same idea as a true holding tank - the mac empties the holding tank part of the porta-potti.

FYI... DON'T disconnect the toilet to empty it. Just use a pump-out. Disconnecting it means removing the hoses which will have some residual "stuff" in it. If he wants to use it as a regular porta-potti, cap the fittings on the potti and plug the hoses.

Yep, probably the self contained unit with the optional macerator to pump overboard (out the bottom) the hose should also tee up to a deck plate for pump out.

Our '99 240 Sundancer had this setup. SaniPotti but set up for both pump out and also overboard discharge, with no holding tank. If you opened the seacock between the macerator and hull it would empty the toilet by discharging directly overboard. It was a temptation because it had such a small tank, but a big no-no on an inland lake... we simply scheduled our marina stops more often to empty the toilet.
