2004 220 SD Oil Change

I've been looking into this as well and plan to change my oil this weekend too.
Assuming you have a Mercruiser stern drive, Mercury will recommend their own 25W-40 synthetic marine oil that meets the FC-W standard. I've used this oil every year since buying the boat new in 2007. I never really liked the high price of the oil, but figured it was designed for the boat, was locally available, and I only had to do it once a year. This year however, the place I used to buy the Merc oil is now longer in business and I've not found anywhere else closeby to purchase it. So I decide to try and find an oil replacement I could purchase just about anywhere (i.e. wal-mart/autozone etc.). After some research, I plan to use Shell Rotella T 15W-40 in my boat this year. It can be purchased at wal-mart for around $10/gallon. Hope this helps and good luck.

I also did some research online and was able to find a Fram oil filter I plan to use. Since Mercruiser engines are all automotive based, it's not too hard to find the equivilent automotive oil filter.

I can't remember the oil filter number off the top of my head, but it will be different depending on what engine you have. I have a 4.3L V6 and I'm guessing you probably have a V8 of some kind.

Oil and Filters are typically changed once a year so my recommendation is don't cheap out on this stuff. Buy the genuine Mercury product or you will be taking a chance with your engine in my opinion.
