Nice looking 380. I like the full height frig/freezer. Sorry to hear you are leaving boating. Hopefully you have another hobby to swtich to.

Moving out............. wife's not happy
Sorry to hear you are moving 'out'. But 'Happy Wife; Happy Life' and all that. You are wise to pay attention and take action. I started with a race car (Which my wife hated everything from the loud, hot, smelly Paddock, to the constant noise in the garage at home). Looked at some fishing boats, but ended up sailing for a few years (which is a LOT of work, but very fun). Owned a Catalina C36, and a Slocum 43 ft Cutter. Switched to the 'Dark Side' in October. My wife LOVES our 380DA :grin:Looks like a very nice boat! Good luck with the sale.

I'm going to list with a broker anyone who you would recommend for Northern Ontario Canada

I'd honestly say Jack Pady. I know he's south of you, but he probably had one of his brokers in your area. Plus he has a very active website and you'll hit the southern Ontario market that's pretty hot right now.

Good luck.

Too bad you are so far away. The 380 is on our short list of next boats. What is the MPG with the 8.1s?

I have been getting around .8 on average over the last 100 hours with cruising at 3400-3600 RPM

I'm getting this number by using the gps mileage and actual gallons put in.

We still haven't listed with a broker yet. After reading the brokerage agreements, I would expect that we would end up with something in the neighbourhood of 20 K less than asking price because of the 10% plus tax fees. So my question is, is it realistic to try to sell this privately or do we need a broker because they can finance, trade, etc.....or should we discount our original price and try to sell it privately? What's a realistic time frame to sell a boat this size? Thanks.

Al

your location is the tough one, but I did drive from Barrie to Michigan to look at a boat when I was shopping, I would think anyone looking for a boat in that price range would have finances figured out first, maybe get aggressive with price privately, there could be a tax benefit to the buyer, somehow :)

Nice boat, and freshwater too. Detroit isn't all that far away. I see plenty of 35 foot and up boats roaming around Lake St. Clair every weekend. Heck, two weekends ago I saw Sergei Federov's old 62' Azimut run aground coming into my marina.

If you're not in a hurry, expand your advertisement area. I wouldn't give that boat away.

So my reasons for using a broker are: #1) I HATE potential buyers climbing around on my boat trying to talk it down as a negotiating technique. #2)Less likely to end up on the bottom of the Bay tied to an anchor during Sea Trials. #3) They do the paper work. #4) They usually get a little more for the boat which never covers their expense but does help. #5) They handle the money (this can be important for tax purposes, and you do not have to decide if the cashiers check is fake). For what it is worth we listed our Slocum 43ft Cutter for almost a year (November, 2013 to September, 2014). Obviously a good broker would be mapping the economy as things continue to improve, could look at similar boats, and would have a much better feel for timing. Our Contract was for 6-Months at a time, and was specific as to the percentage of the sale they would receive, and what fee's would be extra.

Not to hijack your post but I also have a 2003 380DA and need to replace my canvas but can't find anyone who has them. Did you get yours custom or through someone who had an OEM. I'm not looking for a camper style just the regular with Aft curtain.

Thanks
Kenny

Hey Kenny, Ours are custom as well. Done here in the Bay Area before we bought the boat. I believe it is Pacific Crest Canvass. We did have the rear panels re-done with elastic loops which makes them MUCH easier to remove and install. (http://www.sailrite.com/Shock-Cord-Cover-Clip-White). We love the "Camper Canvass". Gives you much more useable room, and more comfort cruising, in cold weather. (With the obvious caveat about carbon monoxide) Sometimes we run with just two of the panels removed, and the vent open. Gives us decent airflow, access to the side deck, and good protection from the cold. I recommend you at least go on a boat that has the Camper Canvass design before you get yours done. We just got lucky and the boat had the camper style when we bought it. I would have opted for the other one too. We have friends with the sloped 'curtain' design on their 340DA, and I thought the set up was great. Now they are thinking of changing theirs.
