I broke my belt and went to replace it. I spun all the pulleys in the system and the all spun freely with no wobble or grind. Fired up the engine and heard this sound https://vimeo.com/135935238

The engine ran up to normal operating temp and did not exceeded 170. Good water discharge but the noise is present. Thoughts??

Cool! I've never heard that noise before. Seems like time to employ a mechanic's stethoscope.

Agree. I would check out the pulley's a lot more closely. Even a pulley with a failing bearing can spin (by hand) like normal. Besides spinning them, try rocking them back and forth and feel/listen for a "click-click" as you do it. If you don't have a mech's stethoscope (which can be found cheap), a long screwdriver or even a wooden dowel can work. Put the handle or dowel to your ear - this test would be done while the engine is running so be careful where you put the other end and don't wear any loose clothing.

Sounds like belt slap. Have you checked the idler pulley. They tend to loosen. There is no auto tensioner. (POS oversight IMO). As stated, check for wobbles as well. Add to that, at some point there were alignment issues between the RWC pump and the rest. CHeck it with a straight edge across all points.

It's hard to see in your video it appears the belt is loose when it's near a top clamp if your belt is slapping around there it needs to be tightened, check your manual to see where to measure the tension usually it's on a long run between pulleys max deflection should only be 1/8" if I remember right.

Also check all the pulleys as you stated it shredded a belt if there are any pieces in the grooves you need to brush all debris out of them or you'll be buying another when it shreds or throws your new one.

The last time I heard that is was the bearing in the idler pully getting ready to self-destruct

I did have the idler bearing go out several years ago mine made a squeal sound that would go away with a shot of WD40 for 30 seconds that's an easy way to troubleshoot it. I replaced the whole idler assembly it was about $30 for everything all new adjusting nut & bolts & ratchet bracket with idler pulley & the cheapo brass bearing.

It's 100 percent a bearing on one of the pulleys...the tick tick tick is the cycling of the internal bearings grouping back together and then repeating as centrifugal force does it's thing.

It looks like, and sounds to me...around the 20 second mark when the engine slowed down....I could see a reference on the belt, and it seemed to make the noise with every single revolution of the belt. I was looking at some white reference point on the belt...perhaps a partial tag or something...

Anywho, I think it may be the belt...new or not!

Sounds like a loose strand of rubber from the belt. When it turns while running, a piece is hitting something. Suggest removing and carefully check for loose piece of rubber. Also suggest tightening your belt. It looks loose.

Thanks for the replies. I am also going to check the alignment of the setting nut on the tensioner pulley. There was a Service Bulletin for this engine reference the alignment of the pulleys. I will straight edge them as well. Additionally there was some debris in the water pump pulley and I may not have gotten it all out. Thanks again fellas I will report my progress.

PM me if you want a PDF copy of the service bulletin with what & how to check alignment & which items need to be shimmed.

Received and printed. I was going to look at it today but bought a new vehicle instead. Thank you I will have a go at it and all the suggestions on this tread

Be sure and check the tension after about 1/2 hour of run time, they usually loosen up a bit. Buy a spare to keep on the boat.
