I want to switch the generator diesel fuel from one side to the other. Can anyone tell me exactly how to do it?
Many thanks.

Are you asking how to switch it one time "permanently" or are you asking for advise on a way to make it permanently "switchable"?

Switchable and thanks for your interest!

Page 124 only shows the switches and parts. I realize that the feed and return need to be in sync, but when I try to switch the tanks, the gen set won't start.

Oh....I thought you wanted to know how to INSTALL a switchover. What you want to know is how to use the switchover that is already on your boat.....in that case, my answer is....I don't know........seriously, thou, if you can't start the genie when you switchover, then there are a few things that could be wrong. The first could be air in the lines on the side that the genie stalls on. Another could be a bad/clogged valve (try turning it back and forth a half a bazzilion times)....etc.

I don't know if you can do this, others with more diesel experience than me can chime in, but I would try switching one valve over at time and try to isoloate whether the problem is in the feed or return circuit ....you might even try to switchover when the genie is running...but again, hopefully others with more smarts can answer you better....

The generator has an electric lift pump and it should self prime. Try switching both the fuel and return valves to the tank you want then go to the generator itself, not the main panel. Hold the preheat switch and listen for the clicking sound......it shoul be fast in thebewginning tthe gradually slow. After 1 minute, release the switch, then wait another minute and do it again. when you have heli the switch about a minute, press the starter switch and do not release the preheat switch until the genset starts or you have cranked about 15 seconds. You may have to repeat this process several times.

In the future, do not try to switch the generator fuel source unless the generator is running.. By doing it with it running there is vacuum and you stand a better chance of purging any air in the lines.

I have, on occasion, had difficulty getting my gen to prime itself after filter changes. I found I was able to save a lot of wear and tear on the starter by simply loosening one of the fuel lines to an injector and cranking for a few seconds. Tighten back to spec and you're on your way.

If I read grtous' post correctly (and up to now, I've failed miserably) his genie starts and runs on one of his tanks (we don't know which one) but won't start on the other tank. So wouldn't that mean that the problem is south of, or in, the switover valves...possibly in the fuel line itself?
