No real issues; just seeking an education & information. My boat has 5 batteries and is equipped with a generator. There are 2 sets of 2 ganged and one set at 90 degrees to those. Each set is piggy backed(in parallel?) Emergency start rocker switch at the helm. What is the function of each battery bank and the standalone battery? Thank you for your replies.

Just guessing here but:
Standalone is likely for your generator, the two parallel sets are probably connected to the starboard and port engines... one set each. One of those parallel sets is likely for your house DC and the other set being engine start/emergency start.

Your schematics should tell the story.

Single is for genny.
One bank of two is for port motor.
Other bank is for starboard.
On my 410 one of the banks powers all 12 volt house stuff, the other powers all 12 volt stuff at the helm including electronics.
Emergency start is used to jump start one bank to the other in case you run that bank down.

I was looking at this today and to JVM225's point (on the 410, I assume 380's very similar) is that it looks like both battery banks are used for DC loads, one set for the stuff you use driving the other for the anchored up stuff, but still loads are still present.

The emergency Start switch just jumps one to the other, so if you have 2 low voltage banks at the end of a week-end, the only way to get them to crank an engine is to start the generator??? I'm used to having a true house bank and a start bank.

I was looking ttmott's inverter install and thinking of replicating it. I too have 5 Group 31 AGM's (all the same age) I was going to move two to the "house bank" for a 4x Group 31 Bank, and buy 2 new for the "start bank" I was going to add AGS and some bank monitoring as well, but not sure if I shouldn't separate some of this DC load out for a true "start bank" that the only thing connected to it would be batteries and a starter.

I want to insure I can get one of the mains started regardless of how well or poorly I managed power.

Any body redo the DC system to "improve" the system?
