2003 280DA - what would you offer?

..... Deduct $5k for storage? Why would the seller care how long YOU had to store the boat? How would that impact the value of HIS boat?.....

My apology, I don’t see a location on your profile.

In Wisconsin we have a short boating season. At best its 6 months with only 3 good months, June, July and August.

In this area, with limited use items like boats, snowmobiles, motorcycles, etc, if you are at the start of the season where you can use the item the price you can get for that item is at its peak for the year. At the end of the time where you can use the item it’s at its bottom.

So, using the boat as the example, in October a buyer needs to pay for the boat then pay to store it, insure it, and take the next 6 months depreciation.

Because of this the seasonal items sell for least at the tail end of the season where you can use them.

If you want a deal on a snowmobile, now is the time. Someone is looking at 6-8 months of payments and storage and will drop the price if they can sell it now.

I am going to guess that this does not apply in year round markets like Florida.

This is just how it is 'round here.

We could argue the % this affects the value but the principle of how it works is generally accepted in this area.

Make sure the compass is pointing North.......you know how those Ebay sellers are.........

Good luck on your "journey"........keep us posted...

I’d prefer one like Jack’s compass that points to where I most want to go.

Reference: Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

I can definately emphasize with you pres. I was in your shoes about 2 months ago and was getting way too emotionally involved. I got the same responses you did from this board, but it still took some time for me to get past the emotion. Eventually I did and I'm glad I experienced what I did. I am now in the market for a new 280DA myself, but like Frank, it will probably be a longer process and I will enjoy my current boat in the meantime.

Thank you!
Yeah you bet. Dave S has sent us a few post for 260DA's we are looking for.

I have found a nice one 2003 260DA but, no trailer, no canvas (other than the Bimini) and no Fresh Water cooling...but only 30+ hours on it  I haven't driven down to see it yet but by the pictures seems very clean. We're hoping to make an offer next month. Lower than the $64,950 their asking because it's missing all of the above. But with super low hours and being so clean, I don't want to see anyone else get it.

This one's no salt too and that's about what My offer will be $54k or so. The Camper canvas and Trailer may make your neighbors a worthwhile look. Is it a nice boat?

Yes. If we were raising 2 kids instead of 3 I would go with this one.

I have continued to shop. Although I have not purchased yet, from my shopping and talking to people, Michigan seems to be the place to find a fresh water boat where boat sellers are most desperate to sell and most willing to make a below market price deal. I assume its due to all the job cutting in the automotive industry.

what does DF mean in the ad you linked to?

Depth Finder

WOW, you mean it comes with a Depth Finder too! :smt038

Man. Does it also come with the hull?

Why-oh-why do people list standard items as if they are options. :smt017

You're in a 240DA now right? That's what we were considering. I have the 4 kids. Granted the 14YO and 16YO aren't along everytime, but want be able to have them. Yes someone will have to sleep in the Helm area but hey right now that's a mansion compared to the 230. The Admiral finally agreed to Make the move after the first weekend out this year. Now everyone here convinced me to get a 260DA over the 240DA. I want the one engine 350MAG which should give us the best Fuel consumption for how we cruise. We'll see.

Yeah I know, but if they didn't then someone would ask.
It also floats and has oil in the engine.
I was at the boat show this year and heard a comment from a lady who asked the Salesperson. "Can you get different styles of steering wheels"
Like that's the make or break part of it. I was watching her husband role his eyes back in his head. :smt100

Reading Jeremy’s praises of the 280 is got me looking at them.

We pull the kids on tubes and my wife will even ski a few times a year behind our 240DA so we want something that has some ‘get-up and go’ yet has more room.

The 260DA is a nice boat. Plus with a 8'6" beam you can trailer w/out permit. A F150 can pull it, short distance, but will do the job.

Oh a 280DA would be great, but this will be a financial decision for us, so the 260DA is as far out as I can reach for now
