looking to buy but getting unsure answers with this. The gasser is 8.1 mercs and the diesel is 3126 cats.

Spurdog.

We have two knowledgable folks here who each have a 410DA....one with diesel and one with gas motors: Impulse III and Computerman.

There are plenty of other of us 410DA owners here also. You will find that most have diesel. I mentioned Impulse III because his 2001 410DA is for sale and in NJ...not too far from CT.

I went from a gas 380DA to a diesel 410DA. Both boats are very similar in size and weight and handling characteristics. However, the torque that the diesels bring to the table is just something you don't realize you need till you have it. Not to mention the economy of the diesels. Comparing a 380DA with 8.1s to a 410DA with CATs, they cruise about the same speed (21-23 knots) but the diesel 410DA burns on average 35-40% less fuel (.8 vs 1.1...these are my average fuel burn numbers from my records....not instaneous fuel burn numbers). Put a pair of gas motors in a 410DA and expect the cruise speed to decrease a bit and the fuel usage to increase a bit.

If you have any specific 410DA questions.....ask away....we'll be more than happy to answer your questions.

You just did.....I'll send the bill out tomorrow.... :)

You need to do a bit more Marketing......You know, new bottom, props, all that stuff!!!! In the car world it would be called a "cream puff"

Does the sale come with that spiffy CAT flag too?

Where is that picture anyway?

Doug

Walk past the gassers and get in the diesel! Too much boat for gas engines for anything other than putting around a lake...

Spurdog,

I purchased a 2001 410da with diesels 3 years ago. I would not buy this boat with gasers, even at a phenominal price. Just not the right engines for this heavy boat. By today's measurements, this is a 44' boat. For the record, had i not found a great long island boat, i would have purchased impulse iii. It is a ridiculously clean boat! Good luck in your search. You came to the right place for guidance on this purchase.

If you opt for a gasser, just do what Mistercomputerman does. As soon as there's a problem, replace the engines with a nice shiney new pair. On his third set now, right?

Yup....but it's rather amusing to watch one 'ass-heavy gasser' dissing another 'ass-heavy gasser'.

Carter: Captn' Rick must not have seen this thread ....maybe you should ping him over at the other....oops.....never mind.... :)

No denial here. Just speaking from experience and trying to save someone else the aggravation!

Yea, but Rick keeps up with Gary. It is amazing what all those new engines can do...

That's precisely why they burn out so fast!
And pls don't summon Autovette. He's just a cranky old curmudgeon who likes to drive a trawler at 8 knots for 2700 straight miles. He has no concept of anything regarding 410DAs and their powerplants.

I hope we didn't scare the new guy away.....

Spurdog....you still with us?????

Probably has a life, unlike us. No one was rude to him/her, which is a pleasant change!
