Does anyone have info on what 2001 400DB's (Sedan Bridge) selling for here in the NorthEast? I'm on the hunt again and want to see what the asking and selling prices are. Thanks in advance!

I'm not trying to be a wet blanket here, but I see this question on CSR regularly and it gets you meaningless information.

I do understand what you are looking for, however, the answers are going to be virtually useless to you unless you see the boats sold and observe their condition. Condition is everything on a 10 year old boat. We saw a 2001 400DB sold here last Fall for $119K...diesel, very clean inside, but the engine room looked like a dungeon and there was a ton of expensive deferred maintenance from bottom job, to broken electronics and one bad refrigerator needed. About 4 months later, another 2001 400DB (4 slips away from the first one) sold for $229K....another diesel, low time, spotless, owned by a pilot who was a maintenance fanatic and the boat needed nothing.

Had you searched soldboats.com all you would have seen were 2 sales in this area, one at $119K; the other at $229K. You couldn't even average the prices for a meaningful number because of the difference in condition. To make something comparable out of the pricing, you would have had to add up the sea water pumps, resetting the engine overheads, cleaning the heat exchangers, cleaning the aftercoolers, detailing the engine room, replacing the plotter and radar and replacing the cockpit refrigerator and the cost of a bottom job. You could not possibly know the needs on the cheaper boat without having examined it because brokers don't tell you in the brokerage listing that "this sucker is a dog and needs a $50-70K worth of freshening up."

My advice to you would be to establish a budget you can afford....including hull and mechanical survey costs plus any travel needed to go see the boat......then shop for the very best boat you can find within your budget. Don't get hung up on decimal points here.......all sellers will negotiate a little. If you find the right boat and it is a little higher than your budget, make a run at the seller. You never know......... he may need to sell the boat and you may be a better negotiator than you think.

As always Frank, your points are so well taken. Thanks for some great insight. Ive seen the boat i am interested in and i have a budget in mind. I think that regardless, i'll fall within that budget. Thanks for always helping me see the bigger picture!

Mike, I just went through this . My problems where that the owners 1. Where upside down on their loans. 2.wouldnt budge a penny and thought his boat was made from solid gold. After a few of these we switched our searches for a different model, I didnt think a boat 11yrs old was worth $200k . Be prepared for situations like this and good luck.
