Hello Searay club, this is my first time using this but here is my situation. I currently have a 2003 260 Sundancer and I am looking to upgrade to a bigger boat. I have looked at numerous 2000 and 2001 310 Sundancers and was wondering if anybody had one currently and could comment on their reliability and performance. I am a general cruiser and will be using the boat with my family on weekend most of the time. Would you guys recommend i/o or inboards only? what should i expect to start to possibly need to be fixed as this is a 6-7 year old boat? What should i be on the lookout for when looking at these boats etc? I appreciate any feedback. thanks guys!!!

I just went through all of this - looking wise. I ended up going to a 320 Dancer trading my 260. The 310 is a great boat. You just need to look at a few things. Has the exhaust been upgraded to the latest exhaust system and the only complaint I heard is that people wish the front berth was an island berth instead of the sideways berth.

Where will you be boating..fresh or salt? Keeping her on a lift or in a slip? This helps frame the discussion and advice that people can offer.

Answers to Skip's questions will be helpful for us in recommending powertains. As far as the boats in general, the 310 is a good boat. I am very familiar with a wide range of Sea Rays. The 310 offers an exceptional ride and good handling characteristics. There is abundant storage, and I believe the layout (especially the cabin) is a great use of space.

As Skolbe suggested, make sure the exhaust is updated to the new exhaust system (barrel type waterlift exhaust mufflers), as some 310s before 2001 have had ingestion issues. They changed the exhaust configuration half way through 2001. There are other posts on this topic. I have the v-drives and love them. The I/Os give you a little more speed, but I think the v-drives are a little better around the dock. I also have the 350 MAG Horizons and the power is plenty sufficient for the boat. Overall, the 310 is a great boat. The usable space is excellent for that size boat. Good luck!
