About to purchase this year and length of Sundeck, and keep searching the “net”, for comments about this particular model year, but coming up short on information. My wife and I checked out a 2004 240 Sundeck yesterday. Really nice boat, not as nice looking in pictures, but in good shape for year of boat. Motor started right up, and seemed to have no apparent problems. One thing about that boat, that thing was HUGE, and that comment is coming from a farmer that is used to driving or hauling big equipment down the road. :). Plenty of seating, very spacious. We didn’t make the owner an offer, as we wanted to think about it a bit, 30 min later when we did make the offer, it was sold.

Anyway, I had done enough reading on the 240 model I was satisfied we would have been happy with the purchase, unfortunately didn’t happen. I’ve really thought a 210-220 would actually be ideal for me, but not too many of them available, and if available, not old enough to be in my price range. Yesterday, I stumbled upon this 2001 Sundeck 190, liked the looks of it, but know we are losing a lot of deck space compared to the 240. I’m also assuming the larger 240 would take the rough waves better than the 190, due to its larger length and weight. Has Sea Ray made major hull design changes between the 190’s and 240’s? I’m sure there have been some hull improvements from the early 2000 Sundeck as opposed to 2005-2008, but can’t seem to find any of tha info either, even on this site.

My wife likes the “cleanliness” of this little 190, and stated we could always use it for a year or so, and if needed upgrade to a larger size. Makes sense. I just don’t want to suffer “buyers remorse”, especially if I’m beat to death traveling over rough waves. For what it’s worth, we only frequent smaller local lakes in our area. Any comments are sure welcomed,
Thanks
Jim

We have a 2006 240. it is a great boat. It looks big at first, but then we invite another couple, and their kids, and we need every seat.

http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/240-sundeck-thread-questions-and-answers.401/ has some reading for you regarding the 240 Sundeck.

https://www.searay.com/us/en/owners.html has specs and manuals for almost all models and years.

The 240 Sundeck stayed basically the same from 2001-2009, then the names changed and the old 240 became the 260, since they started counting the swim platform leangth in the name.

The difference between the 2 boats you are looking at is drastic. the 240 is 7' longer, seats a dozen, and weighs 2000 pounds more, which is a factor when towing. But and many here will tell you, buy your second boat first. After owning the 240, we would never go back to a smaller sport boat.

I don’t disagree with your statement “buy your second boat first”, my only concern is the $20,000 +, I would have to dig up to make that upload_2021-4-18_18-2-32.jpeg happen. Thanks for your response! Jim

They changed most all of the Sundeck hulls in 2002 and kept them the same to 2009. If you go smaller, make sure the max capacity is good enough. The 190 seats 8, 220 is 10, and 240 is 12.

I have a 220, it looks big at the ramp but is much nicer in the water. Everyone has space, plus enough room for cooler tube, etc.

Ideally, not having looked at any, I thought the 220 would probably be the perfect size, for what we want. We did look at a Chaparral Sunesta that was 22’ in length, liked it, but couldn’t come to an agreement on price. Then we looked at the SeaRay 240 SD, and thought it was nice, but really bigger than what we wanted. Then we kind of stumbled upon this SeaRay 190 SD, drove 4 hrs to look at it, and bought it. If I could stretch it a couple of feet I would, :), but for now, it should suffice. We hope to get it out on our small local lake this weekend, for its maiden voyage. Thanks for the comment

Congrats! Whatever the size, you are going to have fun with the Sundeck. they are great little boats:)
