Had the boat for 1.5 years. No issues like this at all. Boat has ran great since I had it.

came back from a boat ride, maybe 12 miles, stopped to cook dinner and relax while the sun went down. After about 90 mins, started both motors, the starboard kind jumped around rpm a little and died. Then would start and die within seconds, like it was starving for fuel, started to head back on 1 engine, about 15 mins in the starboard finally started, ran fine in. Wouldn’t start this morning, swapped the water/fuel separator for a new one (hoping for an easy fix), nope

pulled the plenum and put a fuel pressure guage on the schrader valve and when I turn the switch on that turns the fuel pump on, I get about 5psi.... just double checking with the guys here, guessing the fuel pump is shot.

Seems like I have to buy the whole kit, which Is fine

If I am on or off the right track, please let me know.

For those that has done this, how bad is it, I am not a small guy....

as always, thank you in advance!

Gonna be a real bitch, probably have to take exhaust manifolds off to get to it. Down low port side, not sure how much space you have between the motors.

Thank you for the response scofflaw

With vdrives, this will be on the aft starboard side of the starboard motor, I think makes it a little worse, but I looked at the port one, and that looked bad, and it is what I think is the easier one.

does the 5psi jump out as bad like I think? I hear of these Fuel pumps going bad, but the issues seem to be trying to gain over a certain rpm. Where this one never gets to 40psi before I start it.

I would do a little more diagnostics. Maybe connect the pressure gauge to the other engine for comparison. And I may be wrong here, but I think the paint chip issue is on later motors/setups. You are chasing a fuel issue, which odds are you might be right. But check your ignition system as well. Cap, rotor, and plugs. Maybe take plugs out and look at them to see if there is anything unusual. Would be nice if you were able to pinpoint something before spending the big money on fuel modules, etc. Keep us posted.

Chris, our engines and years are very susceptible to the IAC valve needing attention and when you said the rpm's jumped around that's the #1 sign. It may just be the Idle air control valve. About $60 at NAPA.

Thank you for the response

what did yours do when the iac went bad?

When the IACs on my dock Went bad, they would still run, this hasn’t started but the one time coming back and was solid.

The rpm jumped the one time, for like 3 seconds and that was it

I am curious if anyone else has taken a fuel pressure reading in a situation like this, where it’s not able to start?

My engines would be hard to start and would often start and quit after a few seconds like they were starving for gas. That or they would die when returning to idle. One of them would also have a real hard time getting it to start after running for a while and then sitting for 10 minutes.

Old thread but hoping to close the loop on this.

Chris - did you replace the fuel pump and did that solve it?

What was your solution Nutz? The IAC?

Thanks!
