200 Sundeck Thread- Questions and Answers

Still looking for a good cooler replacement or an alternative cooler location. Any idea's?
I bought a 36 qt coleman 5 day cooler and it does not fit in the locker that the OEM one came in. The OEM cooler doesn't hold ice for long at all, I could use it for food but then need something for drinks and ice... the deck is crowded enough with my wife, myself, five kids and a yellow lab. Swim deck maybe????

I wonder if this 5-Day cooler would fit in place of the Igloo/OEM one.

Well I'm pretty happy with the power. I keep hearing about the people with the 350 v8's but this little 4.3 runs real good and with fuel costs on the rise I can pull an entire day on $50! Very nice.

As for cooler Igloo made a 25QT thermocool that is supposed to fit in the same spot and be great. I haven't tried it myself yet though.

I'm going to invest in a new GPS /Plotter for the boat. Unfortunately Garmin has a 6.5 inch with ALL the bells and whistles and it suction cups to the window and is fully waterproof but its BIG $$.

AH the next Mod!! https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=148&pID=14898

I finally purchased a full camper top for the 200S. I should receive it today or tomorrow then it's off to Marine Max to get the snaps installed. I would attempted installing the snaps myself but I have heard too many horror stories about snap installs gone bad.

CT
The cooler that came in the boat is 13" tall 24" long and 13" wide. There is not alot of room to play with any of those dimensions in there either. I just looked at the igloo 25qt marine cooler and it's dimensions are:

L 20 in; W 11.75 in; H 26.5 in

Seems like it would be too tall to fit in the starboard locker due to the radio location.

ps. CT thanks for the heads up on the plotter, I would LOVE it... Someday.

CP you have gotta post pic of it when you get it on. Thats going to be sweet!

The cooler will always be a problem I guess, I'll keep looking

Yeah with all the rain we have been getting I've been getting in everyday possible on the water and thats like 4 out of the past 53 days! So I'm gonna hold off on the GPS for a little while longer.

OH also an old time boater bud of mine says to take a very little bit of vaseline on a Qtip and run it around the female part of the snap once or twice a year to keep them from corroding and that relieves a lot of stress on them and the canvas and gives them a lot longer life.

Issues with scatching gelcoat even under very slight rubbing conditions at Dock. Any others with this problem?

Scott, yes I had the same issue when I left my brother to stay with the boat on her maiden voyage, when I got home I noticed the multitude of scratches on her port side. But for the most part I always have a bumper between my boat and anything else, so I have yet to see another scratch on her.

CT, all that talk about chartplotters got me all worked up and then I gave in and ordered the Garmin GPSMAP 530. I swear, forum ends up costing me more money... I got my boat back yesterday from getting my snaps put on the camper top, I will put it up this weekend and snap some pictures.

I got my camper top finished and actually used it on a weekend camping trip with my wife. Sunday was actually a bit cold and extremely windy, my wife definately appreciated the top that morning.

Good looking top. Come in very handy for bad weather, camping trips, and can really extend your boating season. Nothing better than to take a nice late fall/Winter trip when nobody else is out.

WOW the Garmin 530 is NICE!!! Where did you mount it? Thats one of the reasons I'm looking at the 960. I know this forum is costing me some too but at least we know what works before we spend the cash! LOL

CP that canvas cover looks GREAT!!!! After the weather we have been having it looks like I'll have to go that route too just to get on the water!

CT, I haven't received the 530 yet, I should get it tomorrow. Still haven't decided if I want to go with the sounder option as an add on or not... But I will be mounting it just like Weave did, mounted via RAM hardware to the window support arm.

I am loving the camper top, it's not real fun to put up... but well worth the effort once it is up, just ask my wife as she is sipping off her margarita in the in the rain under the protection of the new top.

Nice I cant wait to see it. Yeah i just want to have as much field of view of on coming boat traffic, thats why I was leaning to the 640. But with all the rain this season at least I'll be able to wait til next season for a unit now and probably save some $ by waiting.

Ah Margarita's on the Sea Ray, seems Jimmy Buffett must have written a verse about that LOL!!

Ok, so I bought the Magma Newport with the cutting board and the Magma Single LeveLock Flush Deck Socket Mount T10-327. I will take some pictures after I get it installed. I am just praying that I made the right decision on the grill and the mount.

cpditty,
I am interested in seeing that...Where do you plan to store it? Under the port side lounge?
Regarding your question on the stanchion, I wrapped a small piece of duct tape and it works well but when you mount the unit right on the dashboard.

Looking at a 2008 200 Sundeck. It is several hours away so I can't measure it myself and it is rack stored so it is not on a trailer.
Can anybody out there take a quick measurement (length and height) of their 200 Sundeck on the trailer?
Thanks!

Re: Center Windshield Damage

Does anyone have any issues with the center windshield? It is probably from one of the few times we did not snap it down and it came crashing into place. It seems like at least the bottom of that piece has lost the curve to it, and the locks are definitely not fitting as they should. Has anyone else had this issue and have you corrected the window? I am much more careful about snapping that window down when it is not closed. But desperately want to fix the damage.

Just got the last part to the grill today and ordered smart tabs so it's looking like a weekend out of the water installing stuff on the boat. I will take pictures of the installs when I am finished.

CP

Really nobody with the window issue? I guess that makes me the only dummy for not snapping down the window.

I empathize on the window. I lost an entire windshield when the center window crashed into it after a big wave. I'll never again leave it unsecured.

Has anyone put smart tabs on a 200SD? If so, how do you like them and do you have any issues with them? I know it is a bit late to ask now since they are on their way but I want to be sure to address any issues before installation.

Thanks,
CP

Hi CP, WOW you have a hit list HUH? I was thinking about tabs myself just havent done any looking into them yet. As for a Grill I would love to do that mod, cant wait to see yours. And dont forget to post pics of that GPS. ;) I almost had the windshield problem, but I dove and caught it before it made impact! Killed my elbow and back but saved a repair!!!
