Just recently purchased my first Sea Ray.... well, first boat for that matter. '77 Srv 200 Sunrunner. 300 bucks for the boat and trailer. Kind of a spur of the moment thing, couldn't pass up a deal like that. I just hope it doesn't bite me in the .... I may have lucked out though. The only things I found wrong are a stuck lower shift cable, bad exhaust tube, melted bilge blower, and some minor electrical issues. What makes this even better is knowing people. So far I have gotten 2 batt- free, lower shift cable- free. Working on that exhaust tube. The interior could use some work of course. But its not so bad that it would be embarrassing to have on the water. Being new to this, and having a boat with unkown history, is there anything else I should be checking out? Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing there was no sea trial? Any idea when it was last run?

I'm not sure what outdrive is on your boat, but the impellar in the outdrive that pumps water up to the motor should be replaced. They typically last 1 - 3 years depending on where you boat. If you haven't already done so, I'd replace all fluids (engine oil, lower unit oil), check the bellows, remove the drive and check the u-joints and the gimbal bearing. You can buy "ear muffs" to attach a garden hose to the lower unit that will allow you to start it up on the trailer. If you haven't run it yet, make sure everything works. Make sure the bilge pump is working, not just running. You don't want to get out on the water and find out it doesn't work! Timing, points, distributor, plugs and wires should be check and/or replaced. Don't forget the fuel filter especially if the boat has been sitting for a while. Is the fuel old too? I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions.....

Boat is an acronym that stands for Break Out Another Thousand. Welcome to the club!

No Idea when it was in the water last. Already have the outdrive off. The boat came with a new impeller for pump. So far my to-do list includes lower shift cable, exhaust tube, gimbal bearing, pump, and core plugs. More than likely I will toss out the points and condenser and get a conversion kit. I will start a new thread in classic sea ray showing the boats journey to the water. There we can get more specific on the repairs as the come up. Come check it out!
