Mercruiser 7.4 MPI w/Bravo III Drives
Hello, I've recently purchased a 99 sundancer 270 Merc 7.4 MPI w/Bravo III & am trying to get set up for the best performance to be able to cruise but am at a bit higher elevation. Most use will be at Lake Powell elev. 3600'

I have changed the gear ratio in the drive from 2.0 to I believe 2.2 & am running 22P props on the Bravo III drive.

We are usually there for family trips & am hoping to be able to run with 6 adults on board as well as fuel, water, & some gear. Is that more than I should expect from the 270 with the 9'-2" beam & the single drive even being the big block?

Seems that with this scenario, I am having to run at least 22 mph & 4000 rpm or higher to stay on plane, using trim tabs also. Boat will reach 4500-4600 rpm & doesn't appear to over rev but when I try to cruise under 4000 rpm I lose plane. Want to increase prop pitch slightly & see if this helps cruising but I'm afraid it will just negatively affect getting on plane.

Again, am I expecting too much from this boat with the single engine, or should I be looking for some other performance issues I may be experiencing?

If a little to much for the single, any thoughts on what effects (good or bad) a supercharger may do for this?

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.
