I have a detroit 6v92 550 hp. trying to determine the trnsmission. It is a twin disc but the tag is all but completely obscured from salt air etc.. transmission seems to have water mixing in the oil. im trying to diagnose the possible causes and fixes. Anyone with similar experiences?

Good morning Mark. I am originally from Anniston area, looks like you are most likely an Alabama football fan so i may be able to help. There is a trans cooler on the inboard side of both main engines. Trans cooler and fuel cooler are made into a common housing. That is the only place i know of where water could mix into the tranny oil. Unless by chance contaminated oil was added. Give me a minute and ill see if i can post a pic of the data tag.

This is one of mine.

Hi Skip
And great thanks. I had not thought of that. i may bypass that for a run at the dock and see how it goes. That would certainly be majorly less expensive and trouble. as you can see from the pic the floor is on the front. Im in the process of inframe overhaul. I may even swap trans cooler as other tranny is clean.
We actually live in the Hendersonville NC area. Lived on houseboat near Clemson. We have a Chris Craft 375 Stinger we still use for local lakes. (video on you tube). So pulling for Clemson at the moment. That can be a bit sticky at times with a boat in Orange Beach/ Gulf Shores area. Orange in a sea of Burgandy! As you might imagine.

Thanks again
Mark

Not sure about the # coresponding. We actually have our boat at the NC coast. But i still pull for Bama. LOL
