Just picked up my 1998 SR 290 Sundancer this Saturday 6/24/17 and this is going to be my fixer-upper thread.

I fancy myself as a DIY'er but I do know my limits.

Well 1st off lets get cleaning from the inside out.

Does anyone use the AC pan tablets to keep the AC condensate lines clean and sump clean of growth?

I used them in my 2011 260 SD and the sump stayed fairly slime free. This sump could have use them a few years ago.

    2nd fix.

Thanks to Strecker25 for his DIY post a few weeks ago on making sure the grab rail was secure.

All was secure except for the starboard fasteners by the waste and water. One bolt was loose and one didn't even have a nut.

Silicon caulk and new lock nuts w/washers and all is good. Thanks goodness I could reach the nuts by removing a speaker.

    Ha ha.... I wish.

Just an updated: I bought a bottle with 200 tablets for $25 from a HVAC supplier.

I'll probably toss 2 tablets in the AC drip pan to start off then drop one a month in depending on any build up I see. I've been wanting to get some of these for the house that's why I went for the bottle of 200.

Here's my up coming to-do list.

Tossed all the 19 year old throw pillows....... ew. Can't believe they were still in the boat. (done)

Transom shower replacement - must have froze the plastic mixing tube cracked. Must have been leaking for years since the empty space behind it was full of mold. (Aquatik or Heater Craft?)

Spray nozzle replacement by ice bucket. Never turns off. Leaks when water pump is on. (part number?)

Bathroom faucet spray nozzle and hose replacement. (part number?)

The little plastic insert/keepers that hold the HVAC vent covers in place. (part number?)

Aerator for the galley sink. (part number?)

Door and drawer hardware. Are the locking push/pull knobs still available?

Spray nozzle replacement by ice bucket. Never turns off. Leaks when water pump is on. (part number?) I replaced mine with a home depot kitchen sprayer. Went there with the end fittings and got a new one for like $20

Bathroom faucet spray nozzle and hose replacement. (part number?) These are expensive, I looked for a new hose because mine was kinked and just decided to deal with it. Flounder pounder has them though.

The little plastic insert/keepers that hold the HVAC vent covers in place. (part number?) Not sure what these are, the actual vent cover you mean?

Aerator for the galley sink. Is the screw on part gone? if not, just cut a piece of small metal screen to fit. That's all mine is. (part number?)

Door and drawer hardware. Are the locking push/pull knobs still available? These are also available at flounder pounder

Took the LDII out for a nice cruise today.

The 5.0's are running nicely and it's great to see all the gauges reading almost exactly the same for both engines.

    Happy 4th everyone.

    A few more repairs today.

Replaced what looked like the original 19 yo CO detectors (x2) which the previous owner just unplugged and the entire sprayer hose and nozzle by the ice bucket..... no more leaky mess. :)

Sea Ray is pretty proud of that sprayer assembly at $65 but it looks better than an empty hole.

Do the CO detectors ever really go bad? I have a 2003 260DA and mine says it's working and when I push the test button but I don't have any real way of knowing if it works. I purchased a battery operated unit but it kept going off in high humidity with 0% chance of it being an actual alarm.

They have a service life of 5 years.

I had a CO detector on my 2011 Sea Ray 260 Sundancer that was wired into the generator kill circuit and when it expired the lights went off and the generator would not start.

In 1998 these were just wired in ...... no generator kill circuit.

I wonder if mine is the same or not. Mine turns on whenever the battery switch is turned on.

What kind are in your boat?

This site has some good info on changing out CO detectors and some with the End of Life (EOL) indicator. If you have CO's that are 5-7 years old please think about changing them out. It's cheap insurance to ensure that you will live another day.

I like that there is a new one on the market from FireBoy that has an internal battery source so it can be installed on an older boat that does not have them wired in.

    More parts have arrived.

New transom shower assembly today from Flounder Pounder as well as my new anchor kit has arrived at the marina parts department..... plus new nylon mesh carpet was cut this week and should be fitted by the weekend.

    It's coming along.

Nice boat. We had one for a few years. I've been through quite a bit of mine as well.

Just installed my new anchor and rode..... 200' of 5/8" rope and 25' or 5/16" chain.

What a difference new rope and chain make when they are the proper size for the windless with extremely smooth and seamless connection point between the two. No more jams.

Plus the right size anchor (22#) for the boat

Check another fix off the list. Transom Shower replacement.

This Aquatik unit from Flounder Pounder is almost a direct replacement. The overall dimensions are the same and fit the rough opening but the replacement unit is a little shallower.

    I ran into 2 issues:

    1) The hot and cold are reversed on the replacement unit and when installing I did not have enough slack in the cold water line to move it up to it's new location so I hooked it up backwards for right now until I can go under the deck and see if I can loosen a clamp or something and get another inch or so.

    2) When the valves were in the closed position the door latch interfered with the hot water knob and would not allow the unit to close..... so I popped the little rubber bungs, removed the knobs and repositioned as you see them in the picture below..... and now the door latch works like it should.

One other thing I noticed is the old box itself had no caulking around the box so I placed a very small bead around the perimeter of the new box before installing.

If anyone needs parts off the old one the door and the box itself are in good shape. The mixing tube between the valves is cracked on the old unit but the valves work if you need a replacement. No spray nozzle or hose.... those were both trashed and covered in mold. I'll hold on to the old box for a few weeks then it's off to the trash. Just PM me.
