We bought this boat used and it came with 4 blown speakers and no stereo owner's manual. Wondering if any other Club SeaRay members have the same stereo and still have their owner's manual. I'd really like to know the output wattage RMS so I get the right replacement.

The Clarion CMG1620S speakers in the West Marine catalog boast 400 watt peak capability but other websites for this same speaker have much lower 90 watt with 35 watt RMS.

Would really like to start the next boating season with replacements that will fit into the 5 inch cutouts but suspect the 90 watters won't survive.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Thanks Mike! Found some suitable 100 watt RMS/ 200 watt peak performance marine speakers at Best Buy. Will have to enlarge the holes 1/2" but the price was right for our purposes.

Interesting side note, the boat has 6 speakers, the stereo only provides power to the forward and aft pairs. The 3rd pair (cockpit forwards) weren't hooked up to the stereo; instead there was a separate pre-amplifier in the port closet that were intended to be hooked up via RCA connections that were too short! A 3' RCA extension cord fixed this problem.

In addition, the amplifier does not power down when you turn the stereo off unless you shut it down using the remote on the console, which resulted in a hot amp always on adding heat to the cabin in the dead of summer! AND the A/C control panel is mounted on the hot closet bulkhead. Not sure what Sea Ray was thinking in this arrangement. At least pulling the fuse turns off the 'oven', though now that we understand the remote switch operation better (no owner's manual available) we should be OK.

Lesson learned: it's nice to have a boating friend on the lake that is an expert audio/visual systems technical engineer in their day job.

Thanks again for your help.

Frostman, sure you got the model # right? My '98 Sundancer 270DA (wide beam, not SE) has a Clarion m5470 and an M635changer. The CD player just changed to where the volume output is roughly half what it was. It still works great but I have to absolutely crank it to hear it.

I do NOT know a lot about speakers, but was told that my cockpit speakers are wired in series on the left and right sides.

I am told that what this means is that my 4 ohms speakers are really only doing 2 ohms and I need to instal 8 ohlms speakers.

Just TRY to FIND 8 ohlms speakers!

The Gold speakers seem to have it at @ $400 a pair or Boze, but Boze has discontinued making marine speakers.

This is MORE than I want to spend, but what it might cost.

Two 4 ohm speakers in series is 8 ohms.

Two 4 ohm speakers in parallel is 2 ohms.

So if I have a 4 ohm stereo per channel, which is what I understand most stereos have, and I have the outside speakers in series, then I need two 8 ohm speakers in order to get 4 olm sound out of them, correct?
