I am going to look at at boat with my brother today. It has a single 1997 Bravo 2 mated to a Merc 7.4. Boat is a lifelong freshwater with (reportedly) 450 hours.

Are there any fears or widespread problems with the Bravos from the late 90’s assuming they were somewhat maintained?

The Bravo II is pretty much bulletproof - like all Bravo drives. Think of it sort of like the older version of the B3 (better slow speed control, better hole shot) but without the corrosion problems of the B3 - which is obviously much diminished in fresh water. The B3 does a slightly better job at those other things, but the B2 does a better job than the B1.

Thanks for the responses.

We test ran it yesterday. 1997, 7.4 L carbureted Merc pushing a Bravo 1 on a Baja 24 Outlaw.

We got up to 50mph (GPS monitored) in a small lake without trimming, all the way down. Oh yea, it’s got the HP.

All I found was a torn shift cable bellow, but owner is having all bellows replaced.

Looks to be fresh water only.

Needs significant cosmetic work, but mechanically strong. He is going for it, better or worse!!!

Oh, Bravo I? Well, that's different. So... the bulletproof comment still holds true - but the rest is different. A BI is like a Alpha on steroids.
