I just bought a 1997 330 Sundancer and need to ship it 210 miles from Grandhaven to Harrison Twp. Shipper has just informed me the radar arch has to be removed. I have searched around this forum and have not found to much on this. Can I just unbolt and wrap it and rest it on the windshield? This way I do not have to unwire all the components. Any feedback on this is appreciated.

I am very surprised you would need to remove the arch for shipping. We shipped our 500DA from Florida to NC with the arch on. We id have to remove everything on the arch. I would check another trucker.

I'm 13,1 with arch. Max shipping height in MI is 14'.Low boy trailer is 16". Looks like I'm about 7" to high. So far 3 shippers have told me I have to remove. I wish this was not the case. Radar an tv dish will have to completely come off to drop arch.

I removed my arch for painting a couple years ago. I would recommend just pulling the wires down into the side gunnel compartments . It's fairly easy to snake them back up.

+1. Remove the arch. Snake the wires out of the arch with line attached to make it easier to reverse the process. If there is any bubbling paint, get it redone now. From what I understand, the arch is prepped then drilled compromising the integrity of the bonding process. I'm in that boat (no pun) right now.

Don't rest it on the windshield. Move it forward and lay it on the foredeck.

A friend had a 410DA shipped from NJ to TN and all he had to do was remove the radar array and I think the props. I guess it's a MI thing. Too bad you can't get a pardon from the governor. That's a real hassle.

had a guy buy the 340 next to me in storage last year ,all he had to do was remove the radar and tv ant to haul from baycity to boyne.Boltman on here used to trailer his 340 also from east to west.

Don't mean to "pile on", but I shipped my 340 Sundancer from Lake of the Ozarks to Grand Haven one year ago and didn't have to remove the arch. We removed everything off of the arch. I don't believe your boat is any higher than mine so I am surprised it has to be removed. I know it is necessary sometimes...but I am not a fan of removing stuff. I fought a few issues all summer that were related to "stripping" the boat down for transport. If I ever bring it back to the "east side", I will drive it. I have a few good pics of it on the truck if that would help. Good luck.

I believe the Speakers need to be removed to gain access to the bolts that hold the arch in place. Poke you head in the port and starboard lockers with a flashlight to get a better idea. Also, the Windshield is bonded to the Arch with some type of Silicone, this bond will have to be broken (work piece of fishing line between the Glass Frame and Arch). Where in Harrison Twp. are you Moving the boat to? Congratulations on the Purchase.

Try calling these guys, Seen them move many boats in the Harrison Twp. area

I know that generation of 330DA is pretty short on headroom when standing at the helm b/c of the low profile arch. But if the law says 14' you can't get around it.

I know, around here, if you are over 13' 6" you have to have a pole car ahead of the load to check for clearance but it can be done. I would call another transport and ask them. At the end of the day, if that's what it takes to get it on the truck, lay it down.

RR,
That's a negative on the speaker removal, unless you have some installed forward of the side compartments. Mine were installed after I did the arch refinishing.
What you do need to remove is the forward bulkheads in each cockpit gunnel compartment. The port side in front of the fold down step & stbd side where the shore water hookup is. Then you just need someone with long arms that is very flexible!
As far as silicone goes, mine only had small bead that easily separated as I removed the arch. No further prep was required in this area.

Thanks, found a guy out Harrison township ( Great Lakes Transport ) that can haul it without taking the arch off. Comin home to Beacon Cove on Friday. Can't wait! This is my first boat at 44!
