Hi folks,
My factory in dash depth finder has taken a crap. The display had begun flashing the past few years while under speed & now the display looks like the hieroglyphics from the Predators arm bomb. What have others done to replace it? My garmin was acting up too so these two are my top spring project priority. With the skinny water on the southern waters of Long Island its a bit disconcerting when they both go out! I believe the factory sounder is installed "in the hull" & my garmin shoots "thru the hull". Any help here would be appreciated. TIA

I replaced mine with a Raymarine MFD chart plotter/fish finder/depth sounder. You can either get a thru hull or stern mounted transducer.

Thanks man. I'm already committed to the garmin as I have 2 MFD's & network hub combining my 18" Radome radar, depth sounder & 2 GPS antennae. I'm looking to see what people used to replace the little 2" in dash unit. I like to have redundancy.

Good idea.

When I replaced my dash panels, I bought the new set without the hole in that spot.

I just covered the hole with a Fusion remote and rely on my MFD. I'll get redundancy when I add Panoptix later this year.

Can a new chartplotter be hooked up to the exisiting wiring on the depth finder?

this would be much more efficient and than drilling new holes in the hull for new transducer.
there must be a transducer in the water already for depth finder to work , no?

Probably not. But you can replace the transducer. If you’re lucky you have on wher you just need to remove the internals.

I just use my Garmin. My factory one doesn't work either. So my screen is set up with depth, speed and gps location. Works good
