Hi folks,

I just bought a 1997 230BR that has been babied since new. She has been stored in a boat house on a lift since the owner purchased it. It is the original owner. The boat passed it's survey with flying colours.

I just purchased a new bunk trailer (2 longitudinal) for it and would like to be prepared for the retrieval that is going to happen in two weeks. I would like to have a rough idea of the measurements for the bunks and the crank tower so that I might preconfigure as best as possible.

Does anyone have the same boat with a trailer that could measure the trailer bunks from centre of trailer to bunk? If this doesn't work would you be able to measure the distance from the centre of the boat to the best place to place the bunks between the chines on the port and starboard sides.

Also, if you could measure the distance of the end of the bunk to the tower for the crank.

Very excited and can't wait to pick up this boat. It has been a long and hard winter and it is time to get out there!

Thanks for your time.

Mike

So, I don't have that model or know where one is, but I can offer this:

1) Go to the Shoreland'r website: www.shorelandr.com and look up the trailer based on make/model of your boat. That should allow you to find the right size trailer that you'd need. Otherwise, use this guideline: http://www.shorelandr.com/pages/tms_intro.aspx

2) Call a local rep and ask them how they'd set it up for your boat, or

3) Take measurements of your boat; you want the bunks sitting an inch or less off the strakes (where the hull goes vertical, then slopes again. You should be able to measure from keel outward, and do the same for the trailer to set the bunk width before you try to load the boat.

I wouldn't worry too much about the bow measurement at this point. When I was switching trailers, you just get it close, then spend some time at the launch adjusting, then retrieving, checking measurements, adjusting some more, then resetting. Even if it's too far forward, you won't do any damage as long as it's connected to the strap hook and you tow slowly until you get everything measured out. You can always have your tools with you, pull the hull out of the water on the trailer (be sure the end of the bunks is even or about an inch behind where your transom meets the bottom of the hull), then adjust the bow roller (it's there more to hold things than to secure other than keep the boat from shifting forward and to be used in retrieval to ensure you get the boat all the way on the trailer).

Good luck!

Thank for your detailed description. I am going to investigate the other Shorelandr website and see what I can come up with. I am not too worried about the winch tower but I am concerned about the spacing of the bunks.

Cheers!

Diveman,

Congrats on the purchase. My 230 is at the dock right now. So, tomorrow i will take some measurements for you.

Searide...you rock! If you could take a few pictures then that would be incredibly helpful as well!

Cheers!

Mike,

My bunk set up is a little different than yours as my Load Rite uses 2 by 6s. In any event, the outboard edges of my bunks are right at 3' apart (aft and forward mounts), which puts the outer edges on the deadrise just inside of the second strake's inboard contour (counting from the keel).

Also, I did not have my phone. So, I could not take a pic. I can send a pic. later if you like.

Another suggestion. Send SR customer service an e-mail and ask for the distance between the transom and bow eye. This should give you a pretty good idea of where to mount the bow stand.

One other item, I believe 1997 was the first year for our generation of 230s. However, there may be a few previous generation 230s that were marketed at '97 models. So, check out SR's archive section to make sure your 230 is the same generation as mine. The easiest way to tell is to have a look at the aft shear line. The earlier models have a sharper break. Whereas the newer 230s have a gentle reverse shear (see sig. pic.). If yours is an earlier model, my measurements may not apply.

Got it. Thanks so much. My boat is about 300km right now so I will have to check it out once I get up there on the 17th of May. That is my Splash Day!

SeaRide,

Your boat is the twin of mine. The only difference is that I have the convertible top and the 7.4/b3.

You are welcome. Very nice boat and great colors, too.

I bet you are looking forward to the delivery date. Your 7.4 liter should break 50 mph (gps) without any issues. Do you have the Corsa selectable exhaust system?

Searide, is this where your bunk is set up on your trailer?

Pretty close, Mike. My bunks sit just inside the radius of the strakes. The next time you have the boat off of the trailer, you may want to try moving the bunks in about an inch or so.

By the way, how do you like your 230?

Thanks Searide. I LOVE the 230. We were out on Lake Ontario (big water) and I felt safe and secure. The boat handled the chop well and the kids loved it. On the Saturday I had the boat at WOT and was going 53MPH (GPS). That is insane! I find that cruising around 25 seems to be the best fuel economy.

Getting a Bimini put on it this week as the kids got a little too much sun.

Thanks again,

Mike

Mike,

Enjoy! 53 MPH is quick and what's even nicer is that you can run 25 - 35 MPH @ relatively low engine rpm.

By the way. there is another storage compartment located in the boat that is not illustrated in the owner's manual. Reach up under the back rest of the port bow seat and you fill find another storage locker roughly the same size as the helm storage. The hinge (piano hinge) is located at the top of the backrest cushion and is covered by vinyl. Don't ask how long it took me to find it. Hopefully you are a lot smarter than I.

Ha! Yes I know about the port bow console storage. I wouldn't have known about it had I not have read about it here. The previous owner (who was the original owner) asked what I was doing when I was pulling on the port bow seat and was stunned when I opened it up. He didn't know about it!

If you have another chance to take a picture with your boat on the trailer then it would really help me with the placement of the bunks. I am a visual learner!

Cheers,

Mike

Funny! You may have read my thread where I discovered it years after I purchased the boat. PM your e-mail address to me, and I will send you a picture over the weekend.

Hi Searide, I tried to PM you but your box is at capacity. Let me know when you empty it out a bit and I will send it again.

Thanks,

Mike
