Hi all !! First post for me. I have a question about my aft bench seat and cushion. How are they supposed to be stored ? I saw a picture of one where it appears the cushion is flat against the aft wall area, but where is the fiberglass bench supposed to go ? I just purchased this boat in august, i'm still learning the ins and outs of it.

Thanks,
Chris

I own a 1995 270 DA. Not 100% what you are talking about. The rear bench has legs that fold and a hinge. Perhaps if you were to send me a picture of your aft bench, I may be able to explain how it works. The reason for the picture is that I have seen people pull out the folding rear bencha nd replace with a "removable" but not foldable rear bench.

I have seen pics of boats for sale that have the rear seat down and stowed in the rear wall. We are asking how to do this. MM

"IF" it works the same as the older models the seat back is hinged it flips up, the seat then has a hinge that will pivot it into and against the transom so that the upholstered portion of the seat is facing the interior of the boat. once the seat is stowed the seat back will flip back down which will lock the seat in place.

There are 2 different versions of the rear seat on that boat. One that folds up against the transom and one that does not (too big to fit). I have the latter one. I 'thought' it had to do with whether or not you had the sunpad option, but IIRC that theory was challenged in one of these threads.

There is absolutely no place to store mine.

I did not know that there are two different types of back benches. I will need to go to the Sea Ray website to look at the old catalogs. I did not know that the Sun Deck was an option. I always thought that these larger benges were self - fabricated by owners.

I have a 94 270. The rear seat has the fold up legs, but it won't fit in the back wall like I have seen on some other pictures too. I have wondered why some fit in there and some don't.

I looked at mine today and I also have the bench that does not fit in the back wall. It is not even close. MM

Maybe the bench that you guys are seeing that folds up is the one used in the narrow beam 270? I'm not sure - just thinking out loud.

No, MM and I have the narrow beam model. I've seen both setups on the narrow beam. I used to think that the bigger seat was part of the sun pad option kit but someone here claimed to have a sun pad option that folded so I don't know...

Mike is correct on the beam for our models. Maybe these photos will shed some light on the subject. One with the bench in and one out. MM

I found a few photos of boats for sale that show the bench. All are 1997 but I have seen both types on other years. The boat was produced 1994-1999.

Another one with the same bench I have.

And two of the smaller bench that seems to tuck under the wall.

Thanks for the pictures. I own the fold up bench style. It sits lower thatn the other one. I have seen the "non fold up" only once, and I was under the impression that this was aftermarket, because I did not see the option in the spec sheet for the boat. If anyone can confirm this would be good to know.

I believe the sun pad option must be correct. I noticed the top picture has the lip on the front of the seat base that holds the table top for the pad and the seat goes all the way over to the starboard side by the wash down access door. The bottom two pictures don't appear to have the lip and the seat does not go all the way over to the access door.

They offered 2 options (at least on some year models) - one had the seat that folded up against the wall (hinged). I'm pretty sure that one does not convert to a sunpad. The other option - which I have - has a somewhat larger back seat that does not fold up. You have to actually remove the seat to get into the bilge. With that configuration, there is a seperate shorter table support that allows you to turn the back area into a sunpad.

As MonacoMike says, I believe 1994 marked the first year of the 8½ foot beam 270 model that was built until mid 1999.

I would think that this statement is correct unless someone has photo evidence to the contrary. I suppose it is possible that it was cost effective at times due to inventory circumstances that they sent out a base boat with the sunpad seat, as it appears to be much bigger and likely more expensive. MM

Was the camping enclosure a option. Maybe the bigger seat and center pad came with the boat only if you ordered the camping enclosure.
