Hurth Marine Gear HSW 630 V1-1.55
Hello,
I bought a 1995 330 Sundancer 7.4L 454CI (first inboard, first V-Drive) in July. Hurth Marine Gear HSW 630 V1-1.55. So with that said I know very little about what sounds it should make while under power. On occasion and not at any specific RPM it will make a grumble, it could be cavitating, if I get out of the throttle and start over it does go away. (props sent out for scan, show minor pitting. both props are stamped 17/17 however one scanned 17.5 and the other 17.3)( we'll get back to that). I noticed that both Starboard gear box stud nuts were snugged down and both Portside nuts were loose, maybe 3/16 to a 1/4 backed off. I snugged them up, left the dock but it sounded awful after only going 100yd or so. I immediately loosened them back to where I found them. So my questions are, should both side of the gear box nuts be snugged down? Shimmed? Torque #? Where can I find spec? Back to the props, should I have them put back to 17/17, 17/17.3 or 17/17.5 (I don't know what my RPMs were at full throttle to help decide on pitch) Didn't know that was something to pay attention to. I'm learning a lot but would like to resolve these issues over the winter.
On a side note, looking at pics of props on prop shaft shows portside showing 3 threads between nut and cotter pin and starboard side nut is at the cotter pin. Not sure on importance.
Thank you in advanced.
Aaron
