I bought a 1994 Searay 230da last summer and it drove awesome, would come up to plane nicely and cruised easily above 22 mph with little to no effort and at about 3200 rpms. later in the season last year i noticed it was having trouble getting up on plane, when it did finally get on plane it would require a lot more RPM to keep it there (it didn't happen every time we went out). Fast forward to this season, i just put the boat in (FINALLY!) yesterday. Same problem... hard to get out of the hole and it would require me to stay above 4k to keep it up and planned. It would also only get to around 20mph. Once i get up on plane.. my RPMs would keep climbing and id have to back off because i don't want to over rev. Gas mileage has never been good on this boat, but i didn't expect it to be either. Thoughts at what it could be?

Check your prop hub, if you're doing 4k rpm and 20mph, sounds like your prop is spinnning loose and you need a need hub.

That is what i was wondering, but when i was researching it seemed that everything pointed to that i probably couldn't reach 20mph with a worn hub

Please post what you find out

I have a 1989 220da with a 5.0 MPI. Alpha 1
I seam to have lost some speed
Few months ago 4K RPm would get me 18-19 knots. Now only 15 knots. My prop looks kind of nicked up. Not sure if the hub is loose. Any prop recommendations?

sounds like yours is about as good as mine. I think its a simple procedure to check the prop hub. Look it up on youtube, thats where i'm starting with the problem.
