I'm a newbie to the forum ...currently own a 86 Peterborough bowrider and looking to upgrade. I've spotted a 1993 Searay 180 which seems to be in good condition, but wondering if anyone can offer some advice on what I should look at when I go examine the boat.

Thanks!

Do not trust yourself. Get a Hull survey and an engine survey.

My current boat I bought as a Christmas present for myself. I looked over everything myself.

Since it was winter I could not test it. So they sold it to me with a 30 day warranty that started when they dewinterized the boat. I put the boat in the water April 1st at my marina. My marina is an hour and a half from my house so I could not take her out often. I did take her out seven times before the warranty expired. One week after it expired the lower unit blew.

I took it back to the place that I bought it from hoping that they would give me a good deal. Nope! It cost me $1900 to fix.

If its a sterndrive look for transom rot. Water gets in the sterndrive cutout and rots the wood in the transom. Get a small plastic hammer and tap on the transom. If it sounds different near the sterndrive the boat has transom rot.
