1993 290 Sundancer Best Prop

I put on a stainless 3 blade Powertech 18 ¾ X 19p on my BRAVO II last year and am happy. My RPM's are in spec and it is a good all around prop. I wonder though what a 4 blade would be like.

My 94 290 came with a 24p duo and came out of the hole ok with a load.I have since switched to a 22p pitch set but have yet to try it out.It should be easier on her.

Quint,
I have run a 4 blade on a 250 Dancer, really liked it. Quicker out of the hole and the boat ran flatter when on plane, seemed to raise the stern a little. If I remember correctly, I dropped the pitch 2 degrees. In fact it was a Powertech prop, manufactured here in Shreveport.

Call a prop guy for advice. If possible, have the current info for your boat, like current RPM and MPH at cruising speed, and at top speed. Are you satified with the time it takes to get up on plane?
I don't think there really is one answer for every boat and it's owner, even if they are the exact same make and model. People load their boats differently, and have different expectations.
You can start by checking with Sea Ray to see what they put on the boat when it was new, and start from there. But swapping out props until you get the one you like can be expensive. That's why it's probably a good idea to make a few calls to prop experts first.
I just bought a new set of stainless steel props for my 30' Sundancer. It had 14.5 X 19 Aluminums on it, which is what Sea Ray put on it when it was new. I was very happy with the cruising RPM and speed, happy with the top speed (but felt I needed more RPM), but unhappy with the hole shot becuase I thought it was taking too long to get up on plane.
The stainless props I'm switiching to are 15.5 X 17's. I made the decision to go with these after talking to a couple of prop guys. Both agreed that the props on it were too small in diameter for a boat that sized and weight. They both also suggested dropping down on the pitch to improve the hole shot and increase the RPM. The feeling was that any loss of speed because of the pitch, would be more than made up for with the larger and less slipping stainless props.
The two places I found most helpful were propmd.com, and propgods.com. They both gave me a lot of valuable information to consider before spending a lot of money on a set of props. One of them even has an exchange policy. If you don't like the prop they recommend when you get it on the boat, you can pay a $35 re-stocking fee, and they will work with you to fine tune your selection and send you another one.
Not a bad deal.
I'm anxious to get my new ones on the boat, and get the boat in the water so I can try them out.

I went from a 3 blade to a four blade and it made a big difference in acceleration. I think it was 17 pitch 3 blade - good for cruisng / all round to a 4 blade 15 pitch - which improved acceleration RPM stayed pretty similar - 4600 ish
