1991 Searay 170 Bowrider

Good afternoon guys,

I am struggling to find a manual for the boat that I got recently, so I would appreciate it if somebody may have a PDF or link that can share. - Thanks in advance.
I was able to find a manual for the engine I have, which is Mercruiser 3.0.

I had a question about steering, which is very stiff/hard to use. As I did some research, I saw that steering cable/bar may be needed to be replaced, but I am unable to find part #. So any input/feedback would be appreciated.

First let us know all about your boat, where you boat and pictures are always a plus.

Then when you ask a question be as specific as possible and show pictures if possible.
Then for the steering issue, before you replace anything give your whole boat a good service, buy yourself a decent grease gun and some marine grease and hit every fitting you can find.

The boat I have is a 1991 SeaRay 170 Bowrider with1991 Mercruiser 3.0.

We are boating at Simco Lake, Ontario.

About greasing, I love and appreciate this idea and I will definitely work on this.

As far as the link you provided, for manuals, there are some limited there, but mainly for exterior part list.
I was hoping to find more info about steering parts etc. and not grease fitting as you suggested as i may miss some lol

Keep searching the Sea Ray site, I didn’t do a deep dive, sometimes up or down a year will provide more, they also have parts manuals listed as well.

The manuals for our "antique" boats leave a lot out. You will have to find out who the part manufacturer was and see if they have something. The stack of books, papers and flyers that came with mine, leads me to believe that Sea Ray left the details up to the part manufacturer. Same with wiring diagrams. Back in the day, they printed them on parchment laced with Unobtainium and they just didn't last for more than the next model year.

An owner's manual, if you can find it, is likely only to be the "Sport Boat Manual". Lot's of good info, but general info.

A parts manual is probably not going to list the steering cable. You'll need to either check for marking on it or pull it out and measure it.

Disconnect the steering arm at the engine - check to see if it's still stiff. Then lube it up and check again.

Yes, your signature with boat info is visible - thank you for that. I think some phones won't show it if it's being held vertically. I'm looking on a computer - but my phone will show it if held horizontally.
